Egale Canada is a national organization committed to advancing equality and justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-identified people, and their families, across Canada.
Of particular note, Egale was a witness to the Justice Committee when it held hearings in 2002 and 2003 on the issue of equal marriage for same-sex couples and representatives of Egale attended every public hearing held by the Justice Committee.
Egale was one of the plaintiffs that brought the marriage challenge in B.C., was an intervenor in the Ontario marriage case, and intervened as part of the Coalition québécoise pour le mariage civil des conjoints et conjointes de même sexe in Quebec.

Egale Canada will be compiling all of the individual workshop and stream reports, and then writing a conference report which will detail the recommendations arising from the conference and describe Egale's action plan.

The 2,500-member Ottawa-based homosexual lobby group, EGALE Canada (formerly called Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere) has happily romped through the courts due to the generous funding it receives from the federal Court Challenges Program.
Buoyed by this success, EGALE geared up this spring for a further attack on the traditional family, by petitioning the courts to grant them the right to enter into legal marriages.
The Court Challenges Program funds only EGALE in these cases, whereas the homosexual/ lesbian petitioners in BC, Quebec and Ontario have had to forage around to find their own money to cover the costs of their lawyers and other court expenses.

Canada (Minister of Employment and Immigration), [1999] 1 S.C.R. He concluded, first, that the common law bar to same-sex marriage subjected the appellants to differential treatment, in that same-sex couples do not have the choice to marry which is available to opposite-sex couples.
