A parody of the comic-book character Batman that aired on ABC TV for 2 1/2 seasons from 12 January 1966 to 14 March 1968.
It is notable for its use of cliffhanger endings (spoofing the Batman 1943 serial starring Lewis Wilson) and the Batclimb cameo which allowed top celebrities of the 1960s to appear in a small part.
Batman and Robin would slide down the poles to the Batcave where after colorful starting titles jump into the Batmobile, where Robin would say "Atomic batteries to power, turbines to speed" and Batman would respond "Roger, ready to move out" and would race off out of the cave at high speeds.

Batman was created by Bob Kane in 1939 (Detective Comics), inspired by The Shadow pulp novels and radio series.
By 1966 the comic book was in decline and a Batman mid-season replacement tv series (in January) played the character as a campy semi-spoof that was quickly embraced by college students, becoming an overnight sensation.
Batman (1943), 15 awful episodes (he wears fl long-underwear, grey swim trunks, a viking helmet, and drives a Model-T batmobile) were nevertheless well-received as Plan 9 From Outer Space type camp when an edited feature-length version was re-released in 1965.

November 7, 2003 - Counting Down came across an interview that Batman screenwriter David Goyer did with Wizard Magazine (you know, that publication that culls all their information on comic book movies from the Web and then never gives those sites credit).
In the interview, Goyer discusses his take on the Batman franchise and the casting of Christian Bale as The Dark Knight in director Chris Nolan's forthcoming production.
In related news, Batman-on-Film points out that pro wrestler Adam "Edge" Copeland has shot down the widespread rumor that he would play the villainous "Egghead" in Nolan's film.

I hate the old TV series, but you know what the irony is? If it had never existed, then Batman probably wouldn't be half as popular as he is today.
The sales of Batman comics were so bad before the TV show DC nearly cancelled Batman.
THe TV show revitalized interest in Batman, and that was galvanized in the 70s by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams' darker take on the Dark Knight.

 An Egg Grows in Gotham
When that shell-shocked sneak, Egghead, steals Gotham City’s charter from its case at City Hall, he discovers that the city is actually owned by the Mohican Indians and is only leased to the local government.
Learning that if the lease is not paid by midnight, then the rights to Gotham City revert back to the Mohicans, Egghead makes a deal to act as Screaming Chicken’s legal representative, and then plans to ensure that the sum due is not paid.
Having tracked Egghead to his hideout at the Ghoti-Oeufs Caviar Company, Batman and Robin burst in and attempt to apprehend the egg-sasperating villain; however, they soon fall victim to an egg containing nitrous oxide, and as the Dynamic Duo laugh themselves silly, Egghead and his gang escape.
