Part of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, the Supreme Council of Antiquities (commonly abbreviated SCA) is responsible for the conservation, protection and regulation of all antiquities and archaeological excavations in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The SCA was previously known as the Egyptian Antiquities Organization (commonly abbreviated EAO).
The current Secretary General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities is Dr Zahi Hawass (since 2002).

He is currently the Secretary General of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities; prior to that, he was the Director of the Giza Plateau and has also worked at archaeological sites in the Nile Delta, the Western Desert, and the Upper Nile Valley.
Hawass is currently spearheading a movement to return many prominent Ancient Egyptian artifacts, such as the Rosetta Stone, to Egypt from collections around the globe in which they are in safekeeping.
Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Cairo told the press: If the British want to be remembered, if they want to restore their reputation, they should volunteer to return the stone because it is the icon of our Egyptian identity.

CT imaging has been used for numerous Egyptian mummies in the past, including one of famed pharoah Ramses I. It also was used on the 5,200-year-old remains of a Copper Age man found frozen in 1991 in a glacier in the northern Italian Alps.
Egyptian officials had previously announced they were planning the tests, but did not give a date and did not inform most media ahead of time.

The discovery was made public last week by a statement from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities.
The tomb is a rectangular-shape building with false doors, a chapel and a burial chamber decorated with scenes showing aspects of the deceased’s life with his family and at some scenes appearing with deities, Egyptian Culture Minister Farouk Hosni was quoted to say in the statement.
Meanwhile, the chief of Egyptian antiquities, Zahi Hawas, said the tomb was found under a dense layers of rubbles in which they found remains of mummies, wooden coffins, skeletons and potteries dating back to later periods, specifically the Late Egyptian Period, Ptolemaic and Greco-Roman periods.

Pictures of Tutankhamen's reconstructed face and head were released yesterday by Dr. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Cairo.
Before the artists began their work, Egyptian and international experts in anatomy, pathology and radiology, led by Dr. Madiha Khattab, dean of medicine at Cairo University, spent two months analyzing the CT images.
The show was organized by the Egyptian antiquities council and the National Geographic Society, which will feature the Tut reconstruction in the June issue of its magazine.

The forehead bears the emblem of a cobra, which pharaohs wore on the crown as a protective symbol: they believed that the cobra would spit fire at enemies.
It is also blocked by the remnants of the stone portal, which would have to be dismantled and then restored in order to bring the statue to light.
According to reports in the Egyptian press on Monday, the statue might be left in its current place as it could disintegrate on removal.

The cities were built in the 7th or 6th Century BC, during the waning days of the Pharaohs, which ended when Alexander the Great conquered Egypt in 332 BC.
