The Eidan Ginza Line (営団銀座線) is a metro line in Tokyo, Japan, administered by the Teito Rapid Transit Authority.
It is the oldest underground railway line in Japan: the portion between Ueno and Ginza was completed by the Tokyo Underground Railway on December 30, 1927.
The 14.3km line serves the wards of Shibuya, Minato, Chuo, Chiyoda, and Taito.

The name of the line, Tōyoko, is a combination of the first character of Tōkyō (東) and Yokohama (横).
The first section of the line from Tamagawa to Kanagawa opened on February 14, 1926.
In 2012, the Toyoko Line's Daikanyama and Shibuya stations will be moved to new underground stations and the line will start through service to Tokyo Metro Line 13, connecting to Shinjuku and beyond.

The Teito Rapid Transit Authority (帝都高速度交通営団 Teito Kōsokudo Kōtsū Eidan, abbreviated Eidan or TRTA) is one of the two operators of Tokyo's metro system.
TRTA is administered by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and jointly funded by the national and metropolitan governments.
The TRTA is one of the last government-administered rail companies in Japan; it was kept in the transport minister's portfolio after the dissolution of Japan National Railways into the modern JR group.

All services on the Hibiya Line were back to normal Thursday, with the day's first train departing on schedule at 5 a.m., some 20 hours after the accident, subway officials said.

Basically, you can take any line and transfer with just one card, instead of going through the hassle of exiting through the turnstile just to get in line again to buy a ticket for your next train line.
