 M/T Eidanger- Norwegian Merchant Fleet 1939-1945
In Aug.-1941 Eidanger (station 83) was in Convoy HX 144 along with the Norwegian Polartank (station 95), Orwell (station 54), Hallanger (station 53), Suderøy (station 63), Havprins (station 82), Grena (station 73), Evanger (station 84), Norse King (station 15), Vinland (station 66) and Sommerstad (in station 93).
Towards the end of Oct. that same year she was one of several Norwegian ships in Convoy HX 156 from Halifax to the U.K. She was scheduled to sail in Convoy HX 169 in Jan.-1942, but cancelled.
Eidanger's captain asked Toward's captain to remain in the area until Eidanger had sunk, but since a U-boat had been seen nearby and as Toward already had two other rescued crews on board and no escorts nearby, Toward left the scene immediately to catch up with the convoy which was about 10 n.

Limestone for the plant in Brevik is quarried both opencast at Bjørntvedt close to the plant and at the Dalen pit.
This pit extends out under the Eidanger fjord and is the largest working pit in Norway.

Røe of Siljan died 23 Sept. 1796 at age 30, and the 1801 census for Høgset (Høysæt) lists Aslach Gundersen as a 32 year old widower and hired hand.
Although Helvig isn’t listed here among their children, according to this website (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~syafam/anderson.htm), the Eidanger kirkebok contains her baptismal record.
