On March 21, 2005 Eidos received a takeover bid from Elevation Partners, the venture capital group owned by former Electronic Arts president John Riccitiello and additionally has a number of notable partners including U2's lead singer Bono.

This was primarily the result of Eidos' financial troubles, as the company announced in January that its earnings would be disappointing for the last quarter of 1999 and into this this year as it would struggle with the transition to the next generation of consoles.
Eidos currently has 10 games in development for the PS2, is supporting the Dreamcast, has been in discussions with Microsoft about X-Box development and Nintendo about the Dolphin, as well as continuing with PC development.

Eidos seems to have got off to a poor start this year, with revenues plumetting by almost 50% to £23m for the first three months of 2001 according to Bloomberg, leading to losses of £29m compared to a profit of £37m in the same period last year.
Results for their full financial year (which ended on March 31st) were just as worrying - turnover was down from £200m to £150m, with losses of £96m compared to a profit of £49m the previous year.
Eidos predictably blamed Sony's troubled PlayStation 2 launch for their problems, and despite several other big publishers posting record results in recent months, Eidos CEO Mike McGarvey says that he doesn't expect things to pick up until next year when the Xbox and GameCube arrive in Europe.

Eidos is actually profitable, to the tune of £16.5 million on turnover of £137 million last year.
