Eighteen Visions have been promising to deliver an album that glistens as well as it growls, rocks as hard as it punches and sounds as good as the band looks.
If Eighteen Vision was a lumbering behemoth before, then this album sees them stepping up from behind the underground pack, transformed into a thing of stark beauty, taking their rightful place amongst the rock n' roll elite's biggest and brightest.
Eighteen Visions - formed in 1995 - have spread their wings with resolute bravery and determined skill, leaving behind childhood things and blossoming into musical adulthood.

Eighteen Visions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eighteen Visions is a metalcore band based in Orange County.
Eighteen Visions (sometimes shortened to 18V) was founded in 1996 by James Hart and Ken Floyd (who then played drums), the only members of the original line-up still performing with the band.
Eighteen Visions then released "Obsession" in 2004 which would be their last album for Trustkill Records.

 EIGHTEEN VISIONS
The final piece of the Eighteen Visions puzzle was added after recording Obsession in late 2003 with Floyd picking up the axe and Jason Shrout of Kansas City's Saved by Grace taking over on drums.
There is no better example of Eighteen Visions’ evolved sound than first single “I Let Go.” Barney’s multi-layered guitars provide a rich sonic landscape as the pulsing beats of Floyd and bassist Mick Morris propel the song forward.
The charismatic and versatile Eighteen Visions brought flair and a sense of style to the metalcore scene.

 Eighteen Visions “Vanity” - Reviews
Background: Eighteen Visions has been brutalizing eardrums for seven years now, and with four albums on Trustkill Records, they are the slightly artsy harbinger of mascara wearing destruction for one of the hardest labels there is. Two members of Eighteen Visions are in another juggernaught, Throwdown.
Eighteen Visions is one of the bands that have taken up this risk and taken every punch in stride, and although their new release may not be what many of us are accustomed, "Vanity" definitely lives up to everything that 18v has built both in themselves, and in the entire scene.
EIGHTEEN VISIONS don't fool around with their music, it's massive metal core to the Max with vocals that growls at you one moment and then sings a portrait of a calm soothing ocean.

Bio: Eighteen Visions' complex, often off-time, blasting metallic hardcore transforms bits of thrash, stomp, and acidic flness into cohesive, pummeling compositions that occasionally break down and groove.
Released in 2000, the album quickly established Eighteen Visions as one of the big players in the hardcore scene, a position solidified by a summer's worth of touring and high-profile festival appearances.
Eighteen Visions spent the latter half of 2001 writing material for their second Trustkill album, Vanity, which was released in May 2002 and after which Schieppati departed to concentrate fully on Bleeding Through.

Eighteen Visions : Vanity - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Call it glam metalcore or emo metal, but what Eighteen Visions accomplishes on its third CD for the New Jersey label is by no means extraordinary, yet it gets the job done.
Lyrically, Eighteen Visions delves into betrayal, bitterness, and the straight-edge lifestyle, yet the bandmembers' capabilities in changing time signatures and styles mask any weakness that may pop up in the lyrics ("One Hell of a Prize Fighter" being a good example).
Integrating various influences allows Eighteen Visions success among emo, hardcore, metal, and indie rock kids, but make no mistake: Vanity is most definitely a metalcore album, just with a nice pinch of this and a taste of that to make it lively.

Eighteen Visions make no bones about their purpose: delivery of enormous, pounding, ass-kicking hardcore/metal stompers which are intended to serve as the soundtrack for fist fights and other violent behavior.
The lead singers' bloody throated vocals are as abrasive as an S.O.S. pad, the guitars are grainy and scratchy, and the the bass guitars are ringy and plodding.
The drums, which are the only questionable part of the Eighteen Visions' rhythm section, are really awesome and well done, but they're kind of buried in the mix.

MTV News | Warped Tour's Eighteen Visions Are Done Being The 'Victim'
Judging from the lyrics on Eighteen Visions' self-titled new album, it seems like frontman James Hart has had his heart broken, torn out, stomped on and consumed.
Anyone hoping Hart's woes and frustrations triggered a return to the harsh metalcore of the first two Eighteen Visions records will be disappointed by the anthemic verses and radio-ready refrains of Eighteen Visions.
Eighteen Visions started writing the new disc two years ago, as soon as they finished tracking Obsession, and by November 2005 they had stockpiled 30 songs.

On "Obsession," flashes of the Deftones, HIM, Vision of Disorder and Stone Temple Pilots are evident, while Eighteen Visions have completely come into their own at the same time, proving once and for all why they've always been leaders in Southern California and not followers.
After years spent pursuing other projects and passions, all of the bands members have put Eighteen Visions first and foremost in their lives, and it shows.
Hell no, this is Eighteen Visions we're talking about, the band who brought a flamboyance to the hardcore scene that everyone copied at a time when cargo shorts and jerseys were all the rage.

Given Eighteen Visions' rather brief discography, you can't help but wonder a bit about the existence of a best-of collection.
In fact, calling Eighteen Visions heavy metal is probably a misnomer since the group isn't your typical heavy metal band.
Overall, a great place to begin if you're unfamiliar with Eighteen Visions, though don't come here thinking that this is some decade-spanning anthology -- Best of Eighteen Visions plays more like a standard LP and is best approached as such.

 SOUNDTHESIRENS.COM - Review :: Eighteen Visions - Obsession
Getting to the core of Eighteen Visions is a tricky one as there have been many different layers of skin shed over the years.
Beginning as any other hardcore band would have, Eighteen Visions played metal influenced hardcore in and around the California area relying on their often “evil” live show (in homage to Bloodlet) and groove oriented style.
But now Eighteen Visions have basically infused a large portion of Stone Temple Pilots and HIM into their music.

Lifted by years of effort and a new distribution deal with Epic Records, Trustkill Records' Eighteen Visions broke onto the charts with 2004's Obsession, which set up the band's next release as a potential breakthrough.
When a recording artist with a number of albums decides to name a new disc after itself, that's often a signal of an attempt at reinvention or introduction to a new audience, and such seems to be the case with Eighteen Visions.
Eighteen Visions can play contemporary metal with the best of them, turning out songs filled with pile-driving drum parts, thundering guitars, and Hart's obscenity laced, rage-filled screaming.

With Avenged Sevenfold — who Hart said the band was supposed to tour with in 2006, but had to finish the album instead — dominating the countdown on "TRL" and a possible stint on this summer's Warped Tour on the table, Hart said Eighteen Visions are primed for whatever comes next.

Fans of Eighteen Visions' earlier work would no doubt have been horrified with the release of 2004's 'Obsession' - it was a brave and slightly unnerving new direction which didn't see the band build on the heaviness of their previous album 'Vanity'.
I was interested to see where the band would go with their new record - self-titling an album usually means a band believes they have defined their sound, and it appears that Eighteen Visions believe that the melodic path was the correct one to travel.
'Eighteen Visions' is an album comprised of dirty sounding, low-end rock and massive, lighter-flickering ballads, and is well worth a listen - even if you preferred their older incarnation.

DECAPOLIS : Eighteen Visions - Obsession
The temptation to be avoided in listening to an album such as Eighteen Visions’ latest offering, “Obsession”, is the sometimes subtle, sometimes brazen attitude which would have one believe that when it comes to rock and roll style takes precedence over substance.
