  Einherjer biography @ Tartareandesire.com
Einherjer was formed in January 1993 by Frode Glesnes (Guitar) and Gerhard Storesund (Drums).
Einherjer played the Quart festival in June which turned out to be a "farewell" party for Tchort as this was his last gig with Einherjer.
Einherjer have with their new album "Norwegian Native Art" moved to a more different musical landscape where the dismal and agressive atmosphere are conspicuous.

Einherjer signed a deal with Napalm Records and released "Dragons of the North," and "Far Far North." Frode and Gerhard then wanted to move on to Century Media Records, but the other members did not, so Einherjer marched on with two members.
With the addition of vocalist, Ragnar Vikse, Einherjer were ready to release "Odin Owns Ye All," which sounded a bit like tradition heavy metal from the 80's.After this release, Century Media and Einherjer parted ways.
With Frode and Gerhard more in control of Einherjer's sound, they had recorded their best album yet, "Blot." Sadly On February 18, 2004, Einherjer announced that they are splitting up after 11 years of existance.

Einherjer accepted the offer, but unfortuneately by the time it was released, "demos on CD" had suddenly become the new trend.
The same month as Einherjer were leaving their native country to kick off their first european tour, as support to one of the worlds biggest fl metal bands, Cradle of Filth.
The former Einherjer bassist Stein Sund was hired as a session bassist.

Formed in 1993 and after going through major line-up changes this is only Einherjer's second full album release, but if this is anything to go by the future is very bright ahead for Einherjer.
Einherjer's music and lyrics are all based on Viking mythology, so much as they refer to their music as Viking metal, and in truth, this is an ultra heavy album, in which Einherjer have stamped their own style, so I suppose they do have the right to call it what they like.
To be fair to Einherjer, whatever I say in this review, can't possibly do this album justice, you'll just simply have to discover Viking metal for yourselves and embark on a wonderous musical journey that goes to make up one of the most outstanding musical achievements of '98.

When a viking was slained in battle, he was brought up to Valhalla by the Valkyries, for then to join the army of Einherjers and join the Gods in their clash against the Giants in the age of Ragnarok.
Blot turned out to be the Einherjers final recording, but they left a very strong epitaph; Never before had the band shown such skill, rage and originality.
Einherjer left us where they belonged, at the top of the viking metal throne.

The name Einherjer is taken from the Norse mythology, Einherjer is a vikings life after death.
THE FIRST RECORDINGS Einherjer entered the studio for the first time in december 1993, to record the demo "Aurora Borealis".
It's is safe to say that the already-cult-band Einherjer reclaimed their position at the top of the viking metal throne with the new album.

Well, Einherjer was founded in late summer of 1993 by Gerard Storesund, Frode Glesnes, and me (Rune Bjelland), in fact it was on a Saturday night at a party at Ivar Bjornson of Enslaved's place.
Einherjer seems to carry many Norse themes and a unique sound.
An einherjer is a Viking who has gotten himself killed at the battle fields, after this, he is brought up to Valhalla by the Valkyrians for the purpose of fighting in the army of Tyr, when the age Ragnarok emerges.

THE METAL OBSERVER - Interview - EINHERJER - August 2000
Something else that has come back into your sound are the mighty choirs that had made up quite a big part of the fascination of "Dragons Of The North" and what many people had missed on "Odin Owns Ye All".
I know we had some desertion after "Odin Owns Ye All" because of the rather unpredictable direction we took, but we are unable to please everyone at all times.
Basically no, because EINHERJER is a band we have dedicated to this concept only, and it would feel strange to start dragging new topics into it.

Einherjer - Norwegian Native Art Review - sputnikmusic
It was not Einherjer that led me to folk and Viking metal but they sure lifted the criteria of a truly good album of these style.
The keyboards are still a key element of Einherjer's sound, but the folky charm of old has been replaced by a more elaborate and elegant style.
The band are still keen on using off-the-wall time signatures, but there are also some more straight-forward, thrashing metal tunes like "Burning Yggdrasil." One of the most surprising tracks is the album closer, "Regicide." Along with some of beautifully melodic keyboard work, the vocals are duet between Ragnar and very talented female singer.

Vikse joined Einherjer for the band’s 1998 Century Media debut, Odin Owns Ye All, and continued on to sing on the band’s newest album, 2000’s Native Norwegian Art.
As it appears, Einherjer won’t enlist a new singer, but will rather put Glesnes in the spotlight as frontman.
No news from the Einherjer camp about the musical direction, but the band did mention previously possibly returning to an older sound.

Einherjer first made an impression thanks to a fabulous demo and have now released their debut album through Napalm.
Unlike their colleagues in various other bands, Einherjer have afforded themselves the freedom to create a sound they can call their own.
Einherjer have managed to to define a folk niche in the typical Norwegian fl metal sound and it won«t be long before others will be copying them.

The only detraction from the overall great experience is the production, the snare drum in particular, which could have been a little denser.
The really cool thing about Einherjer have to be the male choirs (band members actually), which deliver a true (as far as I could tell) Norse feeling: legends, reverie, drinking bouts, fighting, myths, and war, all echo through the choruses.
I guess my favorite song is "Clash of the Elder," with its (unintentionally?) funny singing, which reminds me of what we used to do after getting heavily drunk.

Since their beginnings they took their time to do their releases, which most probably also is due to the numerous line-up changes.
Following "Ironbound" then is EINHERJER how we know and love them, stomping, with the so typical folk influenced melodies and rhythms, a bit more extensively used keyboards and Frode's mean, hoarse growl, which does not really take a lot of talent, but automatically conjures up pictures of Vikings in full armour.
Frode Glesnes' rough vocals are one element that will split the opinions, but the music still is so typically EINHERJER, with all the melodies, folky elements and that, that I can wholeheartedly can say that with them Viking Metal still has a solid pillar, which fans of this style should get.

Einherjer doesn't sound directly like any of these bands, though there are similarities to be found.
Like the aforementioned bands, Einherjer's style is musically based vaguely in the fl metal camp (especially in the vocal department), while the music is somewhat more traditionally metallic enhanced with a rollicking sound that is the Viking trademark.
The band decided to call it a day in February 2004, feeling they had accomplished what they wanted and wishing to pursue other interests.

After a bit of a lineup change for the next year to come, Glesnes and Storesund remained as the recruitment of Ragnar Viske took over on the mic, while Erik Elden filled on bass duties.
With the lineup finally intact, Einherjer's second full-length, Odin Owns Ye All, saw the light of day in 1998.
