In 1934 von Wright enrolled as a student at the University of Helsinki, graduating in 1937.
His teacher EinoKaila, who was professor of philosophy at the university, encouraged him to study, outside the prescribed curriculum, such books as Carnap's Abriss der Logistik and Dubislav's Die Definition.
When Kaila urged him to specialize either in psychology or in logic, von Wright followed his liking for the exact line of reasoning.

The prolific Finnish philosopher EinoKaila attempted to construct a theory of everything based on the philosophical implications of quantum mechanics in the 1950s.
His attempt did not get much attention outside Finland, and he only managed to write the first part of what he planned on making an extensive study on the subject.

From the 1920s, the philosopher-psychologist EinoKaila directed Finnish psychology on the basis of Gestalt psychology, though also remaining critical toward it.
Kaila tried to develop his own dynamic and stratified personality psychology, and later on unified psychology connected with "logical behaviorism" or "Gestalt behaviorism".
His pupils began from the late 1930s to direct research and education to applied psychology (mainly Arvo Lehtovaara) and to the psychology of perception (Kai von Fieandt), the latter still mostly through the Gestalt orientation.
