  Dundalk FC Supporters Trust
I am writing to you on behalf of the National League Supporters’ Association (NLSA) to urge you, on behalf of your club, to vote against the proposed merger between the eircom League and the FAI, and also the proposed FAI invitational league, at this weekend’s eircom League AGM.
The NLSA is a supporters’ group established in June of 2005 with the intention of giving eircom League supporters a voice in the workings of the league which they support – financially as well as from the terraces.
We have held meetings with the FAI on league issues and are listed as a contributor to the Genesis Report on the eircom League.

Football League of Ireland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Football League of Ireland, usually known simply as the League of Ireland or the Eircom League (from the league's sponsorship by Irish telecommunications company Eircom), is a league of football clubs in the Republic of Ireland.
It should not be confused with the Irish League, which is the league in Northern Ireland.
Until recently the league followed the pattern of the other leagues in the British Isles of starting their league campaigns towards the end of Summer and playing through the Winter until late Spring and playing no league games during the height of Summer.

It is proposed there be no promotion or relegation in the 2006 season and that in 2007 the Eircom League as we know it is effectively wound-up with all clubs having to reapply for membership of a new league.
This proposal is the latest development for the Eircom League, which has enjoyed considerable success since the introduction of summer soccer.
The Eircom League is therefore determined not to rest on its laurels as a result of both improved perception and football standards beyond all recognition since the start of the Millennium.

The commercial behemoth that is the English Premiership and the global cash cow that is the UEFA Champions League have done much to confine coverage of Irish soccer to the cracks and interstices of Irish television schedules.
It is vital to those involved with domestic league soccer clubs that not only their games be broadcast, but that the highest quality of footage and camerawork be used to reflect the progress that has been made over the last five years, something our public service broadcaster RTE is unwilling to do.

From the selfish 10-team Premier Division proposal, to the radical suggestion that there should be a 22-team League, all eircom League sides would seem to have some view on what should or should not be done.
What actually occurred was that the Leaders of the League recently produced a blueprint document on the future of the eircom League, about which I wrote in an Editorial previously.
Under the 10-Team League structure, the sick thought whereby the smaller clubs not in the Premier Division would operate under the motives of feeding the larger teams with players is astonishingly hypocritical.

While Hoolahan's contractual status (his current deal with Shels was due to expire in a year's time) may have forced the club's hand somewhat, the sum involved could judiciously be characterised as a derisory valuation of a player with extensive underage international and European experience.
Accompanying Doyle and Hoolahan in the 2005 departure lounge were Waterford's Daryl Murphy (a snip at £100,000 for Premiership Sunderland, where his talents have remained largely unused) and erstwhile Ireland international Dominic Foley, who availed of a contractual loophole to terminate his tempestuous involvement with Bohemians in favour of a Belgian billet at KAA Gent.
As if to underscore the full cost to eircom League football of a year which saw the domestic talent pool drained remorselessly by overseas suitors, 2005 ended with Kevin Doyle and Shane Long notching for Reading in a 2-2 draw with Derby County.

For Derry, this season also marks their 20th year in the eircom League which, Candystripes boss Stephen Kenny believes, would make claiming the League Cup all the better.
