Since then it has also incorporated code from other free BSD descendants, including FreeBSD, NetBSD and MicroBSD.
Code from MirOS BSD has also been incorporated into ekkoBSD.
One of the projects goals is to port the MirOS to run on the Linux kernel, hence the deprecation of MirBSD in favor of MirOS.

Regardless, looking into it is a great idea as there may be a good portion of code that we'll be able to salvage.
I really wish that EkkoBSD's first step should have been with that installer, no matter how buggy it actually was.
I never implied that we should change the current FreeBSD CD in any way, my idea is for an additional CD that utilizes the same packages with a different installer and a different default setup.

Some of the ekkoBSD developers have since joined the MirOS Project: Dave Steinberg will continue to do his work on fdialog, if he gets the time.
Also, Waldemar Brodkorb is back from his time off, and Joseph Soentgen promised to do some ports, thus bumping the total number of MirOS committers to six, with currently three of them being active committers.

On OpenBSD, ISOS and EkkoBSD firewalls (PF), redirect all traffic to port 21, to ftp-proxy.
The same thing applies to recent releases of ISOS, EkkoBSD and MacOS X. To listen to IPv4 addresses, you must run pure-ftpd with the '-4' switch: /usr/local/sbin/pure-ftpd -4 & * FTP over SSH.
This is a BSD standard behavior (verified on OpenBSD, ISOS, EkkoBSD and FreeBSD): when a new file is created, the group is inherited from the parent directory.

The server has been designed to be secure in default configuration, it has no known vulnerability, it is really trivial to set up and it is especially designed for modern kernels.
It was successfully ported to Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, ISOS, EkkoBSD, MirBSD, BSDi, Solaris, Darwin, Tru64, Irix, AIX and HPUX.
At least Solaris, ISOS, EkkoBSD, MirBSD OpenBSD, FreeBSD and Linux are known to be safe.

When Vasil asked if there were any *BSD distributions besides Free/Net/OpenBSD, I couldn't come up with a lot of examples, although I knew there were some.
Well, as a first approximation, there are TrustedBSD, EkkoBSD, The FreeBSD LiveCD Project, and just today I heard about a new one, LittleBSD, which even sports some anime artwork (and there's more around the site).
I know there are more, it's just that I cannot think of them at the moment.

Anyways, since cross-compiling is a headache waiting to happen, I stumbled across distcc, woohoo.

I don't think they are good enough for Madpenguin's front page, but they are good for curious FYI sorts of musings.
But honestly, the only differences between EkkoBSD and OpenBSD were a few text files, plus a huge lack of packages.

The BSDs will likely increase market share greatly.
With the announcements from SCO and tough pressure from companies wanting a more liberal license the BSDs (ekkoBSD, NetBSD, DragonFly BSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, MirBSD, OpenDarwin, Darwin etc.) will likely increase market share for 2004 especially after frustration of many server administrators after the latest linux exploits.
Major server providers have also announced they will start supporting FreeBSD.
