 Ekofisk
Ekofisk is located literarily in the middle of the North Sea at a point two hundred miles from Norway, the British Isles, and Germany.
The result of locating Ekofisk in this remote site is that to house all of the equipment, materials and 500 men and women to operate the complex round the clock, a string of eight platforms, almost a mile long, was built.
Before we made even one trip to Ekofisk, the four of us from AAI who were to work offshore spent a week doing this, learning and practicing how to put out oil and gas fires.

 DNV - Ekofisk: Overcoming a mid-life crisis
ConocoPhillips' Ekofisk field in the North Sea is the first legitimate child of the Norwegian oil age.
Ekofisk Area Growth project is estimated to cost NOK 8.1 billion and will enable ConocoPhillips to run the Ekofis field more profitably for another 30 years.
The Ekofisk field is located in the southern part of the North Sea, southwest of Stavanger and almost 200 miles offshore Norway.

The original Ekofisk area development consisted of eight oil and gas fields, namely Cod, Ekofisk, West Ekofisk, Tor, Albuskjell, Eldfisk, Edda and Embla.
Ekofisk 2/4 J became the central platform in the Ekofisk area.
The second of the 2 new Ekofisk II platforms 2/4 J was installed in July 1997.

The Ekofisk area growth project aims to increase the recovery of oil and gas from the Ekofisk Area by adding reserves of 64 million barrels of oil equivalents net to ConocoPhillips and increase the area's processing capacity and reliability.
The Ekofisk growth project consists of two interrelated components: the Ekofisk 2/4 M platform and an increase in capacity.
The Ekofisk 2/4 M platform is a steel wellhead and process platform to be located southeast of the Ekofisk 2/4 J platform, and connected by gangway with a tripod.

A re-development of the Ekofisk field is now in progress, which when it comes on line in 1998, 2 new platforms will be installed and 12 of the existing platforms will cease operation, with disposal deferred for some time.
Platform 2/4 R is a riser platform consisting of an 8 leg steel jacket weighing 2635 tonnes and a deck weighing 2287 tonnes.
However, the installations at the Ekofisk centre are suffering subsidence and a plan for these will be submitted by early 1998, with a view to perhaps removing the topsides in the period 1999-2001.

Ekofisk B is connected by bridge to Ekofisk K, which is the main facility for water injection.
Water injection was approved on 20.12.1983, Ekofisk II was approvedon 09.11.1994, Ekofisk Growth was approved on 06.06.2003.
