  Systematics of moths - FMNH
The objective of the project is to create a testable hypothesis of the phylogeny of the main lineages of the Gelechioidea, and a more detailed study of the assemblage comprising lineages grouped as the family Elachistidae in a broad sense.
The results of the phylogeny study will be further used to study the evolution of feeding strategy shifts between saprophagy and herbivory in the Gelechioidea, and the host-plant relationships of the Depressariinae, a subfamily within the Elachistidae, the species of which display a high degree of host-plant fidelity for certain plant families.
The aim is to perform a total evidence analysis of the phylogenetic relationships combining morphological character data scored for larval, pupal and adult stages of the terminal taxa with that obtained from selected sequences of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA from the same species.

Lutein sequestration in parsnip webworms from populations under different ultraviolet light regimes in the montane west   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Department of Entomology, 320 Morrill Hall, 505 S. Goodwin Ave, Urbana, IL Differences in photoactivating light intensities and the sequestration of host plant lutein may alter the efficacy of phototoxins against insect herbivores.
We examined lutein sequestration by the parsnip webworm Depressaria pastinacella (Lepidoptera: Elachistidae) from populations in western North America that experience different UV intensities, as well as phototoxic furanocoumarins in the host plants Heracleum lanatum and Pastinaca sativa.
Differences in UV light intensities, lutein sequestration, and the presence of the polyembryonic parasitoid Copidosoma sosares Walker (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) may all be factors that interfere with the furanocoumarin-mediated interaction between the parsnip webworm and its hosts in these western populations.

Local pattern of host plant utilization by lepidopteran larvae in the cerrado vegetation
In this paper, the first results of an inventory of lepidopteran larvae associated with buds, flowers and fruits of cerrado plants are presented as well the information regarding the diet of caterpillars and the degree of specialization on host plant species and/or plant tissues.
Fourteen species were known as leaf feeders, restricted to host plants of a single genus or family within the study area, and were found to be feeding, also, on flowers or fruits of the same plant species.
So, we suggest that they are not dependent on flowers as food items, but use them in an opportunistic manner, enriching their diets.

 Micro Moth - Agonopterix argillacea - BugGuide.Net
Placed in the Oecophoridae in Guide but actually in Family: Elachistidae (see Info for comments)
Apparently some authors have decided not to follow the classification of Gelechoidea given by Hodges in Kristensen (1999); in the first paragraph here by Pitkin and Jenkins, they call the recent classification "radically different and contentious" (without explaining why), and continue to follow Nye & Fletcher (1991) which included Agonopterix in Oecophoridae.
Whatever, it's certainly a good idea to list Elachistidae in the Synonym section, so BugGuide has all bases covered.
