	Elbasan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		It is located on the Shkumbin River in the District of Elbasan and the County of Elbasan, at 41°06′N 20°04′E.
		It is one of the largest cities in Albania, with a population of around 100,000 (2003 estimate) and an area of 1,290 square km.
		Elbasan was founded by the Turks in the 15th century on the same site.

		It has been cool and rainy here in Elbasan, and everyone comments on this, apparently it is very outside the norm for this time of year.
		Elbasan is pretty like Shkodra was, the whitewashed stone walls, the red tiled roofs, and the grape vines, heavy with grapes, are everywhere, and beautifully overhang the walls.
		Elbasan is on the Shkumbin River, and is most famous for the enormous ASteel of the Party" Steel mill that the Chinese built just outside of town in 1974 (which I got a picture of yesterday).

	Albania: Justice must be delivered to victims of torture and other ill-treatment
		Amnesty International today urged the Albanian authorities to ensure that prosecution witnesses at the trial in Elbasan of two former police officers charged with torturing a detainee are protected from intimidation, and that the victim is granted compensation if the charges are proven.
		According to the indictment, Naim Pulaku was stopped at a road-block outside Elbasan and beaten by the two defendants in December 2001.

		This morning, due to a crane falling, a worker has been seriously wounded and in spite of a preliminary visit to the hospital in the city, it was necessary to transfer him to the military hospital near Tirana.
		After landing at the stadium of Elbasan, NATO militaries picked up the wounded worker, who was of Turkish origin, and immediately transported him to Tirana.
		The worker was traumatized and diagnosed with three spinal fractures, pelvis fracture and suffering from shock.

		The Rapid Response assessment of primary needs in Gjirokastra resulted in the establishment of a warehouse stocked with sanitary/hygiene items that are distributed to new arrivals in the camps.
		Sanitary and hygiene items will also be distributed through the IRC Mobile Clinic, the stationary clinics run by Aid Without Borders and the Catholic fathers in Elbasan.

		As the crow flies, ElBasan would probably be less than an hour away from Tirana, yet because of the large and amazing mountain range between them it took us the best part of two hours in a hired (including crazy driver and his son) mini van to get there.
		The road was very windy and not the best of surfaces in areas, but I couldn't help imagining how fun it would be in a fast car.

		The focus of this study was to identify the levels of fl smog, SO2 concentrations and their ratio in last three years 1997-1999 in Elbasan City, and carcinogenic effects on human health.
		Those people are aware of the fact that they are leaving in the really dangerous area, and the existing pollution is threatening their lives.
