 Some Civil War Soldiers of Northwest Maine
The 9th Maine served in the Carolinas and southern Virginia, and was engaged in several battles including Fort Wagner, Cold Harbor and the siege of Petersburg.
The 17th Maine was organized at Camp King in Cape Elizabeth and served with the Army of the Potomac in some of the most significant battles of the war, including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness and the siege of Petersburg.
He enlisted from Dallas Plantation in the 12th Maine Infantry, which was organized at Portland in November, 1861 and served in Mississippi and Louisiana, and later in Virginia, where it participated in Sheridan's campaign in the Shenandoah Valley.
