Eldar (Warhammer 40,000) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional universe of Warhammer 40,000, the Eldar are a race of elf-like humanoids.
Outcasts (including Pirates) are not welcome aboard Craftworlds except briefly, for their minds are dangerously unbound and attract predators from the psychic realms of the warp.
Outcasts are also disruptive in another sense, for their presence can distract the young and inexperienced from the Eldar path by their romantic tales of travel and freedom.

 Eldar - Warhammer 40k
The Eldar are a race of elf-like humanoids, the most ancient and advanced of all races, with the exception of the Necrons and their C'tan masters.
The history of the Eldar in Warhammer 40,000 mimics that of Tolkien's elves, to the point that they are a "dwindling race" in the game universe, as the elves were in Middle-earth's Third Age.
The Eldar may also be seen to borrow from ninja to a lesser extent with their appearance, and use of shuriken.

The Eldar character wishes to assassinate a high-standing member of the Inquisition, and has taken the employ of a radical Inquisitor in the hope of learning protocol and ultimately gaining a chance to assassinate his true target through the oblivious actions of his 'master'.
To an Eldar all of life's experiences are available to a heightened degree: the intellectual rewards of study, the exhilaration of battle, the creative impulses of art and music, and every imaginable pleasure of sensation.
Outcasts must be exceptionally strong of character to survive, and even they will eventually return to the sanctuary of their Craftworld existence.

 Eldar (Warhammer 40,000)
The history of the Eldar in Warhammer 40,000 also has similarities to that of Tolkien's elves, to the point that they are a "dwindling race" in the game universe, as the elves were in Middle-earth's Third Age.
In addition, many Eldar symbols and adornment for vehicles and armor contains references to Japanese and Asian culture, such as the use of the Japanese torii gate and in-yo (yin-yang).
It is also important to remember that the War in Heaven is a myth, not actual history - the Eldar believe it, but believe it in the same sense that a modern Christian might believe in the Garden of Eden and man's fall from grace.

One part of my interpretation of the eldar is that the Path tends to dominate their lives to a more significant extent then indicated in some of the more recent 'fluff'.
Eldar codex and other fluff that the Eldar path is as you've described it and nothing like "changing jobs".
The Eldar picks a path and stays on it until it is completely mastered before moving on to a new path.

Renegade Eldar are very rare, but not as rare as the Crone Eldar though (for Nev's sake, the Crones are the Eldar who have turned to Chaos, and are said to be the most powerful and malicious Chaos worshippers of all).
The Eldar Pirates are those Eldar who follow the Path of the Exile like the Rangers, only they cut all connections with the Craftworlds never to return again and becomes pirates and mercenaries.
The Eldar refer to their dark kin as to having fallen into shadow, so I wouldn't expect the Exiles to be given the same name.

Warrior-seers without equal, Blademasters draw their members from those warlocks who are enraged at the suffering of both the Thaalax and the Eldar in general and who hunger for revenge against the primitive, clumsy races that inhabit the galaxy.
Only around one in a hundred outcast warlocks ever become potent enough to earn the title of Blademaster; most will die as many outcasts do, or return to their homes and begin a new path.
Force organisation: The Athzhai Khaine is not an army in the Warhammer 40,000 sense of the word and does not use the force organisation chart.

Intrigued by the propensity for the Alaitoc Eldar to follow the so-called 'Path of the Outcast' I endeavoured to find the root of this from amongst their number.
It appears that the Eldar of Alaitoc are the most puritanical adherents to the culture known as the Path of the Eldar - that lifestyle by which an Eldar will dedicate itself to the pursuit of knowledge in one sphere of life at a time.
Although disenchanted with their craftworld, those on the Path of the Outcast still remain loyal to Alaitoc and many of them return to it in due course.
