Eldfell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eldfell is a cinder cone volcano just over 200 m (650 ft) high on the Icelandic island of Heimaey.
The pumping capacity was increased in early March, when a large chunk of the crater wall broke away from the summit of Eldfell and began to be carried along the top of the lava flow towards the harbour.
The attention focussed on the island as a result of the eruption led to a later upsurge in tourism once the eruption was over [1].

Eldfell is an active volcano on the Icelandic island Heimaey.
Eldfell began erupting in 1973, causing a major crisis for the island of Heimaey and nearly causing its permanent evacuation.
Lava and ash covered almost the whole island and a lava flow almost closed off the harbour, the source of almost all the island's income via its fishing fleet.
