Born in Paisley in 1958, Eleanor graduated BA LLB from Edinburgh University in 1982.
Eleanor was elected as Conservative Member of Parliament for the Epping Forest constituency in May 1997 and re-elected with an increased majority in June 2001.
In the 1987 election, Eleanor was the Conservative candidate in the safe Labour seat of Paisley North.

Shadow Women and Equality minister Eleanor Laing this afternoon stated that the equality battle was far from won, and that the traditions of the Conservative Party were essential in upholding the importance of the individual.
Ms Laing noted that new regulations on age discrimination, which have come into force today will take a while to bed down and it was important for employers to approach such regulation in a positive light.

EPPING Forest MP Eleanor Laing has spoken of her sadness that attempts to save her marriage have failed and that she is divorcing her husband, Alan, ten months after she discovered that he had been having an affair.
