Parliament and Assembly boundary maps, with various kinds of readymade analysis, are also available on the Commission''s website www.eci.gov.in As part of "open databases" initiative, even the SHAPE files, with attribute tables, are available on the website for the public to download and generate their own maps.
Since the Election Commission reaches every nook and corner of the country, it is believed that any countrywide GIS initiative by the Commission will spread the use and culture of GIS maps throughout the country in a big way.

Discussing the polls, the Commission sought to play down the level of violence in the first phase of voting claiming, "Barring a few incidents of violence and snatching of Electronic Voting Machines in some states, polling was by-and-large peaceful.
The Commission has invited representatives from the election commissions of Australia, Mauritius, Malaysia, Mexico, Venezuela, South Africa and Russia to witness the election process in India.

 Steps being taken by the Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections in Jammu & Kashmir
The Commission has considered this matter and decided that at the ensuing general election to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir the polling stations shall be dispersed and located as far as practicable, at the locations indicated in the electoral roll of 1988, subject to the changes approved by the Commission.
The Commission has received complaints that there was considerable delay in the transmission of these postal ballot papers to the Returning Officers and, as a result, a significant percentage of the notified class of voters was deprived of their voting rights.
The Commission considered this genuine grievance of the political parties and held a meeting with the Union Home Secretary wherein its was agreed that the leaders of the other political parties should also be provided with reasonable security cover so that they are also able to take up their election campaigns.

Till 22nd September, 1999 the Election Commission was of the opinion that all the ballot boxes of one polling station will be distributed to one table for counting the ballot papers and that would be the manner of counting of votes.

 Illusion and reality: The J& K State Assembly Elections
Recent statements by DPM Mr.Advani that the Election Commission of India is fully capable of administering free and fair elections in JandK without international election monitoring are contrary to the long history of election fraud in the state.
The Election Commission of India has said it was a priority to “make available to all concerned in the state clean, legible, computerized electoral rolls of high accuracy.” These rolls should be independently audited to ensure their accuracy.
Although India has attempted to mollify concerns about their failure to provide free and fair elections in the past by allowing foreign journalists and other international observers “acting in their individual capacity.” Apparently, the Indian Government is wary of an organized, independent election monitoring effort that might question the legitimacy of its inadequate election procedures.

The Election Commission of India today banned all appointments in Haryana following complaints by the Opposition that even after the enforcement of the model code of conduct on December 17, the state government was appointing persons recommended by the Haryana Public Service Commission or the Haryana Staff Selection Commission.
She said that commission had clarified that the expenses in connection with display of hoardings or banners would be booked to the account of election expenses of the candidate for whose benefit the hoardings or banners had been put up.
The Haryana Election Commission(HEC) has decided that the panchayat voters list would be revised by taking the qualifying date as January 1, 2005, and on the basis of the Assembly electoral rolls, which are to be finally published by the Election Commission of India on January 3, 2005.
