Elections for the Assembly of French Polynesia, the Territorial Assembly of French Polynesia, were held on May 23, 2004.
Antony Géros, the president of the Assembly of French Polynesia (Le président de l'Assemblée de la Polynésie française), did not participate in Friday's session, and also described Flosse's election Friday as an "election of the president of the Tahoeraa Huiraatira", which is a reference to Flosse's pro-autonomy and anti-independence party.

The French Council of State decided on Monday not only to reject Temaru’s call for a new election, but acceded to Flosse’s motion for the poll to be annulled in the Windward Islands.

Oscar Temaru, who became French Polynesia’s President after general elections held in May this year, was ousted in a motion of no confidence on October 9, after one of his coalition MPs crossed the floor.

She told the Council’s public hearing that her investigations shows evidence that on general election day (May 23), many polling stations in Mahina were still decorated with light blue and white colours (the colour of Temaru’s pro-independence Tavini Huiraatira party), “even the curtains of the polling booths”.
The Windward Islands group is crucial in French Polynesia, as it represents 37 of the 57 seats in the local assembly.

PAPEETE, Feb 15 (AFP) - French Polynesia's pro-independence grouping Union for Democracy (UPLD) received a boost when a newly elected deputy of another party joined it, but the pro-France camp said it had no intention of recognising defeat.
Temaru, whose party swept to victory in Sunday's by-elections in two islands, said he was optimistic over the possibility of getting an absolute majority of 29 seats, noting that he was in contact with another ADN deputy.
The by-elections were called after France's state council - the highest administrative court - last year annulled the results of May 2004 elections in Tahiti and Moorea, citing irregularities in some polling stations.
