In addition to the electives which have been developed by the departments and which are described herein, students may develop Student Initiated Electives.
The elective program for each student will be the responsibility of the student, the student's advisor and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions.
Most of the electives listed herein and Student Initiated Electives are available to the fourth year students of the College of Medicine and to fourth year students of other medical colleges accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or the American Osteopathic Association.

 Electives
The elective will include hands-on clinical examination, diagnostic procedures on clinical cases and cadavers, finding and interpreting data from literature, presentation of short talk and daily seminars given by staff and visiting lecturers.
This elective will allow students to gain additional experience in the investigation of equine respiratory disorders, both upper and lower, including the use of the treadmill, endoscopy and the surgical correction of appropriate cases.
The elective is based principally on available case material, although students are invited to submit subjects relating to anaesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine for tutorial-based discussion.

Once an arrangement is reached regarding elective objectives and scheduling, the student and supervisor complete either a catalogue or non-catalogue proposal form and submit it to the Electives Office, Undergraduate Medical Education at least six weeks prior to the beginning of the elective.
Non-catalogue electives must be approved by the Electives Office, Undergraduate Medical Education after the proposal form has been completed and signed by both the student and the supervisor.
