Electoral register - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Electoral registers are used in many democracies including the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.
It is this register that is used for voting and its supply and use is limited by law.
It has been suggested that in the future the register may be taken from the data that is to be held on the proposed Citizen Information Project [1], or on the National Identity Register [2].

Electors who are unable to vote in person because of their occupation (including members of the services), physical incapacity, or change of address, may apply for a postal or proxy vote.
Each elector is entitled to a single vote and may not vote in more than one constituency, although it is not illegal to be on the electoral register in more than one constituency, provided the residential qualifications can be satisfied.
Electoral behaviour in Britain is characterized by a considerable degree of homogeneity and the movement of support (or swing) from one party to another at a general election is usually maintained fairly uniformly over the whole country.

Electoral software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Electoral software is, simply put, software which is used in connection with elections; it can be for the purpose of winning elections, as is polling day or GOTV software like EARS.
GOTV (get-out-the-vote) software is designed to store canvassing information and correlate it with the electoral register - this is in order to identify who is to receive targeted literature so that third parties may be squeezed, supporters of certain opponents be informed of relevant information, and other market segmentation.
On polling day, the software may be used to sort lists of electors who have not yet voted, in order to boost turnout.

The electoral management body provides the means for registration, but the voters usually must make the effort to register and provide proof of their eligibility.
The permanent register can be less burdensome on voters, but requires regular upkeep by electoral officials to ensure that voters who have moved away, or who have died, are taken off of the lists.
Electors who choose not to be on the National Register of Electors still retain the right to vote, but must re-register before the election in which they wish to vote.

We often receive enquiries about the electoral register. The register is held at your local electoral registration office (or council office in England and Wales), who you should contact if you are unsure if you are on the register or would like to check details on this.
The edited register can be bought by any person, company or organisation and could be used for different purposes such as checking your identity and commercial activities such as marketing.
Our view is that electoral registers should be compiled exclusively for electoral and other limited statutory purposes and that they should not be made available for sale for commercial purposes.

The purpose of the Law is to regulate the activities of the electors, the electoral bodies, political parties and State activities that concern the electoral process (section 1).
It is important to note that the registration system (sections 21 to 29 of the Electoral Law) is a complex one: first, would-be voters must file an application to enroll on the Electoral Register and return one month later to claim their electors' cards.
This determination is revealed by the fact that the Electoral Law was amended in order to regulate electoral propaganda, extend deadlines for the registration of candidates and, particularly, extend the deadline for closure of the Electoral Register.
