In 1936 the cinema was bought by local entrepreneur Joseph Cohen.
Initially the cinema was due to shut its doors for three weeks for a Christmas break, but it soon became clear that it was not to re-open, leaving staff and regular customers angry at its sudden closure.

We arrived on Portobello road, and found ourselves outside the cinema, you will be able to spot it from the end of the road, it has a big blue neon sign that reads Electric, the entrance is ram-a-jammed full of fashionable (well we let them think they are) notting heller's er i mean HILLers.
Whilst outside the cinema, and giving Harry the cash for the tickets someone approached him because they thought he was a ticket towt (sorry can't spell it and my spelling is so bad my spell checker doesn't even know what I am trying to spell).
There are also a couple of other interesting pages on the site such as "Electric Scream" this is a regular night where parents or carers can bring their sprogs that are under a year old and have them on their laps, apparently these run every Monday and Tuesdays (from March) too, cheap ticket prices apply.

The decline in cinema usage could be down to the fast turnaround of films to the home market as well as people having more choice about what to watch and where.
Secondly, years ago people used to go to the cinema as a family, now it isn't "cool" for kids to be seen in public let alone at the cinema with their parents, which brings up point number three.
Myself and others hate going to the cinema when there are hordes of kids there which leaves you with two choices: go during the day when the little turds are at school (if you're not at work that is), or go late at night when they should be at home.
