The electric eel may be found in the basins of both the Amazon River and Orinoco River, as well as the surrounding areas.
Electric eels are capable of varying the intensity of the electrical discharge, using lower discharges for "hunting" and higher intensities are used for stunning prey, or defending themselves.
Although the eels are common in their range and popular draws for public aquaria, the eel's habit of delivering shocks, even when gently handled, means that they are too dangerous for most amateurs to try to keep at home.

The eels are one of the few great Los Angeles bands that have been largely unrecognized by the rest of the country, mostly because of the group's unconventional brand of deconstructed pop and singer/songwriter E's strange melodies and dark, twisted lyrics.
The musical depth and complexity of the band's live performance was amazing considering that there were only three musicians on the stage.
The most touching moment of the night came during the last encore as the eels played a poignant cover of Magnapop's "Open the Door," which chronicles the deaths of one's closest friends - something that E is familiar with, as every member of his immediate family died over the past year.

The Eels are from Cleveland, lodged at the gateway of the Midwest in the middle of the decade, and had the benefit of coming from one of the few cities in America that had a genuine punk uprising long before the fact, a preoccupation the Eels can at least take some credit for.
The Electric Eels stood at the crux of history, and the fact that they’re still standing is one of several reasons to go out and grab this piece of history and begin to understand how badly everything in the ensuing 25 years has gone wrong.
