Salsa & Merengue Society – Rhythm: Piano
The essential role of the piano is to provide a rhythmic river of notes on which are carried the vocal and instrument melodies.
Electric pianos feature a similar key action to acoustic pianos, which I consider essential to developing a pianist's touch and phrasing.
Some electric pianos can be configured to simulate bass sounds on the lower half of the keyboard; otherwise a synth can be used instead.

Rhodes piano - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The embryo of the Rhodes piano was invented during WWII in 1946 1940s by Harold Rhodes, and its principles are derived from both the celesta and the electric guitar.
The preamp with stereo panning is included on the original Fender Rhodes Electric Pianos and after 1970 on the "suitcase" models; the "stage" models lack the preamp and the amplified speaker cabinet.
The overall effect was that of a Rhodes piano and an electronic piano being played simultaneously; compared with the new polyphonic synthesizers being marketed at the same time it was far too limited in scope.

How to choose an electric piano keyboard or digital piano to use with piano learning software
Any solution is good till the digital piano, piano keyboard, or MIDI controller may be connected to the computer, and you can start practicing to acquire basic piano skills.
The touch-sensitive piano keys are a plus, as also are the loaded keys that simulate the resistance of real piano keys, though these features are not needed for beginners, and especially for small children.
Our piano software does not need additional built-in functionality that some of electric piano producers try to add to the modern piano keyboards, like lightning of piano keys, complicated piano teaching attachments, and multitude of music tones and effects.

 Digital Piano 1-SA musical Instruments
Today's digital pianos use digital-sampling technology for emulating fine acoustic pianos: the sound from an acoustic piano is recorded digitally, and this digital recording (also known as a sample) is stored in the digital piano's computer memory.
The size nd cabinet style of the piano is not always a reflection of the number of features in the piano, but a good rule of thumb is that the larger cabinets usually contain bigger speakers and amplifiers for better sound quality.
Electric piano or digital piano without hammer action but only with weighted touch or weighted keys sounds are keyboards with better than keyboard samples but do not have true piano hammer action touch.

Classical Piano - Electric Keyboard - Prosser Piano
A piano's strings, as with any natural object that gets stretched between two points, are susceptible to the forces of nature, including heat, light, moisture, and humidity.
Since a digital piano uses electronics and sampling technology to simulate the sound and nuances of an acoustic piano, strings aren't necessary on a digital piano.
Sampling technology authentically recreates the desirable acoustic qualities of an acoustic piano created by the string and soundboard design, that characteristic which causes a piano to be big, bulky and extremely hard to move.

the Wurlitzer Electric Piano   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The vibrations from the stroke on the reeds produced a big fat and rich tone, which was picked up by a pickup system converting the tone into electric energy and leading the tone out of the built in speakers on the front of the piano.
The piano received great attention from the branch organizations and in 1956 the first Wurlitzer album was made by Sun Ra and Demons at Play.
The piano quickly became popular among touring bands who found it to be a lot lighter than the Rhodes and that the Wurlitzer's sound more easily could fit into a guitar based band than a Rhodes.

 Wurlitzer
For many years a staple of the rock ‘ n’ rollers keyboard arsenal, the Wurlitzer EP200 electric piano was first manufactured in the very early 60’s for domestic usage in the home environment.
The EP200 used a "bag of shot" genuine piano action with the felt hammers striking the flat reeds at around centrepoint, causing the reed to vibrate which was then in turn converted to electric energy by the electrostatic pickups.
This piano action was vastly superior to the Fender Rhodes’; very basic action, making it more suitable for most keyboardists who could easily adjust to playing the relatively short (64 note A-C) keyboard more so than the early ‘slushy’ Rhodes action.
