Condition responsive electric switch system, electrical switching device and method of operation thereof - Patent ...
The electrical switch device as set forth in claim 11 in which the preselected initial contact make-break position of the at least one set of contact elements is located approximately one-half of the total distance between said preselected open and closed positions of that set of contact elements.
The electrical switching device of claim 15 in which said switching means includes a pair of movable contact elements with said resilient means mounted therebetween to produce a positive spring gradient on both movable contact elements and a wiping action as the switching means enters one of the switching modes.
Electrical switching devices, especially those employed in the control of electrical circuits in domestic appliances, are often operated by changes in temperature, pressure, liquid levels, electric power, or the like and utilize various different power elements, such as bi-metals, bellows, floats, and magnetic armatures or the like for instance.

DIP switch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A DIP switch is an electric switch that is packaged in a standard dual in-line package (DIP).
This type of switch is designed to be used on a printed circuit board along with other electronic components and is commonly used to customize the behavior of an electronic device for specific situations.
DIP switches are often used instead of jumper blocks where a setting may be changed more than once.

Loosen and remove the level switch from the tank, vessel or cage that it is mounted to.
Switches that are installed but not practical to operate with the process fluids may be tested by removing the spring cap (4) and the spring (5) then depressing and releasing the spring guide (6).
Should the switch operation have one of the malfunction s as given in the table of 8.7, use procedures given in paragraphs 8.8 thru 8.9 to calibrate the switch.

Modular electric switch-circuit breaker assembly - Patent 4945450
Electric switches or circuit breakers can be arranged within both compartments or an electric switch can be installed within one compartment with an electric circuit breaker installed within the other.
Mechanical and electric ground connection is made between the multi-component module and the panelboard-switchboard assembly by a latch arrangement that is accessed by a secured bail handle.
The saddle springs 70, 71 insure good electrical connection between the connector clips and the bus bars over long periods of extended use by maintaining constant contact pressure and thereby reduce the heat that would otherwise be generated by the contact resistance that occurs with other connector clip configurations.

Electric commutator-switch and method for assembling it - Patent 4006526
According to the invention, the switch comprises a tumbler having a central component of such a shape that the resilient element and the contact blade are directly placed on it without any risk of error.
1, the switch is constituted of a casing 1, parallelepipedic in shape, and exhibiting a peripheral edge 2 at one of its ends.
The switch being rotated in either of the end positions putting-on a circuit in which the switch is placed, it can sometimes happen, in case of over current, a slight contact sticking between the mobile blade and the terminal.

Plant Maintenance - Electric Switch Heating
Switch heating exists for the sole purpose of making sure that points continue to work in all weather conditions, specifically to prevent freezing in winter.
All switch heating is controlled from a control cubical, usually found on the line side.
The switch heating strips are further tested by spraying water on them.

Children's Heart Institute | How the Heart Works: The Heart Electric System
The Sinus Node is considered to be the main switch of the heart which inititates the electric impulse of the heart and terminates it.
The Purkinje fibers allows the electrical impulse to directly activate the ventricular muscle to contract, and so a heartbeat is generated, the blood from the right ventricle is pumped to the lungs, and the blood from the left ventricle is pumped to the body.
The heart electric system plays the major role, by generating and conducting an electric signal (electric impulse), it provides the instructions needed, for the pumps to time their actions precisely, as when to empty and when to close.

Electric switch flips atoms TRN 021302
A team of researchers from the Max Planck Institute and the Technical University of Munich in Germany has used an electronic switch to transfer the spin of a group of electrons to the nuclei of atoms in a semiconductor.
The energy associated with electron spin is considerably greater than the energy associated with atomic spin, and this energy mismatch usually keeps the electrons from changing the atomic spin.
But by using a gate, or electronic switch, to control the density of electrons in the semiconductor, the researchers found that at certain densities the interactions between electrons affect the spins of the semiconductor's atoms.

Autos make big switch from electric to hybrid   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
When General Motors pulled the plug on its $1 billion electric car, it may have appeared that the auto industry was throwing in the towel on low-or-no-emissions vehicles.
Unlike electric cars such as the GM EV1 designed to satisfy California's requirement that automakers sell zero emission vehicles, hybrids do not require a charging station and are not restricted to the range of the batteries, usually about 100 miles.
With California preparing to drop its requirement that 10 percent of a car maker's sales be electric vehicles, GM is planning to park the EV1 in a museum after spending $1 billion in developing the commercial failure.

Silicon light switch is electric TRN 062905
Researchers from Cornell University have made a relatively small silicon device that uses an electric field to switch a light beam on and off.
An electrical signal changes the way the light in the ring interacts with the light in the channel, effectively turning it on or off.
The refractive index indicates the angle that light bends at the border of a material; this phenomenon is responsible for the illusion that a straw bends at a liquid surface.

The IFO photoelectric switches are non-contact switches which are suitable for use as a diffuse-reflective sensor (without reflector) or as a retro-reflective sensor (with reflector).
The operating principle is based on modulated light, which is emitted through the front lens of the switch directly to the object or reflector which is to be detected.
The reflected light reaches the receiver through a second lens, and is processed electronically, causing a change in the output condition of the switch.

Electric Company Switch Hits With Zetron Telemetry
Using a combination of coal and hydro power, the utility oversees generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity to an estimated population of 230,000 in 423 communities across a service territory of 50,000 square miles spanning Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
The need to switch: To manage electricity being fed into these distant towns, the power company needed a way of remotely controlling its pole top switches, a type of gang switch, that is normally manually opened and closed.
In case a power line goes down in one direction, pole top switches can be opened or closed to feed electricity from another line and keep the town in power.

New solid-state power switch safeguards electric service   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
"The nation's electric grid is operating so close to capacity that many of today's electric load demands for fast and dynamic voltage support cannot be provided fast enough," says Alex Huang, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Virginia Tech.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is currently funding research by Virginia Tech to use the ETO in a high-power converter for dynamic voltage support in transmission and distribution grids.
The increasing frequency of electricity outages and outage duration are due primarily to lack of quick voltage support, leading to voltage collapse in many regions of the country and poor quality of power (flicker, for instance), she wrote in the R&D entry.

More than 5,500 Michigan businesses switched their electric service to a competitor of Detroit Edison or Consumers Energy in 2004, according to a report issued by state regulators Tuesday.
Detroit Edison and its allies are likely to use these statistics in the months ahead to show how much electric choice is hurting the utility's bottom line as they renew their efforts to limit competition in Michigan.
Any changes made to the electric choice law will affect how much residential customers pay for electricity in 2006 and whether they can switch to a competing supplier to get a lower rate.
