Microphone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Capacitor microphones can be expensive and require a power supply, commonly provided from microphone inputs as phantom power or a battery inside the mike, but they give a high-quality sound signal and are now the preferred choice in laboratory and studio recording applications.
In a dynamic microphone a small movable induction coil, positioned in the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, is attached to the diaphragm.
A pressure gradient microphone is a microphone in which both sides of the diaphragm are exposed to the incident sound and the microphone is therefore responsive to the pressure differential (gradient) between the two sides of the membrane.

Speakerphone with wireless infrared microphone - Patent 4543665
The electrical signal produced by detector 122 is a reproduction of the sub-carrier signal produced at the output of modulator 109 in the remote microphone unit.
The microphone electrical voice signal, whether it be local or remote, as chosen by the state of switches 764 and 770, is applied to low pass filter 772 and routed through a normally closed switch 774, which serves as a mute switch.
To detect the presence of a carrier, the remote microphone electrical voice signal produced by the limiter/discriminator is applied to a band pass filter 786 and a level detection circuit 788.

 U.S. Patent: 5297198 - Two-way voice communication methods and apparatus - March 22, 1994
The microphones 111 and 50 differ in that voice signals from the former are, when the speakerphone is connected to a remote station, passed through transmit section 200 and hybrid 610 to an outside communications channel to be reproduced as voice sounds at such station (i.e., not by the speakers of the FIG.
That is, such electrical analysis is conducted by the use of two equations earlier set out, and of which the first employs an averaging technique which tends to pick out peaks in the component signals so as to yield a quantity which is primarily a measure of the second "voice" component of the composite signal.
Although the voice signals from auxiliary microphone 50 pass through attenuator 313 in reaching speaker 70, the level of the voice sounds reproduced by that speaker from those signals does not vary with the noise level existing in environment 23 during the period such voice signals pass to speaker 70.

 AllRefer.com - microphone (Electrical Engineering) - Encyclopedia
Electret microphones, which are the most widely used microphones, have a permanently charged dielectric between the two electrodes and thus generate voltages when the electrodes vibrate.
Both the dynamic microphone and the rarely used ribbon microphone generate voltages by electromagnetic induction.
For example, in the dynamic microphone, the diaphragm is attached to a light movable coil that generates a voltage as it moves back and forth between the poles of a permanent magnet.

 United States Patent
The microphone is interconnected with circuitry 230 which is physically oriented on a board 232 disposed on the interior of the housing 130.
As mentioned, when the microphone 70 detects the barking signal 50, the circuitry 230 processes the signal and activates a motor 260 which is mounted conventionally by means of straps 270 to the interior upper surface 272 of the frame member 254.
The barking sound and the ambient noise electrical signals appearing on lead 600 are delivered to a low pass filter 610 which functions to filter out the electrical noise signals corresponding to the ambient noise 60 and to pass only those signals corresponding to the barking sound 50 onto lead 620.

 Sound Terminology
Microphones are usually classified as being either high impedance (10,000 ohms or greater) or low impedance (50 to 250 ohms).
Electrical to acoustic: Positive voltage into the "plus" terminal of a speaker causes the speaker's diaphragm to move forward (produces positive pressure).
Electrical to electrical: Positive voltage into pin 2 of an XLR plug or at the tip of a ¼-inch phone plug produces positive voltage at the output (pin 2 of XLR jack, the tip of a ¼-inch phone plug, or the red (plus) connector of a binding post (banana terminal)).

An example of a transducer that converts acoustic sound energy to electrical energy is a microphone; examples of a transducer that convert electrical energy to acoustic sound energy are speakers and headphones.

 Microphones
A microphone whose output depends on the velocity of the response, such as a moving-coil or dynamic microphone, or a ribbon microphone, is made flat by operating near the resonant frequency with a low Q. In this case, v = f/r is independent of frequency.
The condenser, or capacitor, microphone was perfected by C. Wente in 1917 as a much-needed low-noise substitute for the carbon microphone, and as a standard microphone for acoustical measurements.
If the upper plate is the diaphragm of a microphone, the electric field E plays the same role as the field produced by the bias voltage in an ordinary capacitor microphone.

Helmet accessories for mounting a microphone and electrical plug on a motorcycle helmet were known as of this filing date, but Applicants claimed accessories that allegedly were superior to the prior art.
Their accessories attached to the lower edge of the motorcycle helmet by clamps, with the microphone mount and the electrical plug mount separately clamped to the helmet so that they were positioned above the lower edge of the motorcycle helmet.
The helmet accessories as defined in claim 1 wherein said microphone mount includes a microphone boom seat attached to said outside jaw, said seat adapted to receive and secure the boom of a microphone, and to provide means for wires associated with the microphone to exit said seat.
