Electro (music) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Electro, short for electro funk (also known as robot hip hop and Electro hop) is an electronic style of hip hop directly influenced by Kraftwerk and funk records (unlike earlier rap records which were closer to disco).
Not all electro features rapping; vocals processed through a vocoder is a common element and instrumental tracks are more prominent than in related genres of electronic and hip hop music.
Although the early 1980s were electro's heyday in the mainstream it enjoyed a popularity increase in the late 1990s with artists such as Anthony Rother, DMX Krew, Mr Velcro Fastener and Japanese Telecom.

 Electro-Acoustic Music
This kind of musical composition was new and to be found only in a few dozen universities in l975, but it would become part of the fabric of a musical education in every college twenty years later.
Most people applying for college teaching positions in music at the present time have extensive experience in electro-acoustic techniques, which are found in all music graduate programs and of course in myriad commercial recording studios which prepare material for TV and film use.
But the new musical aesthetic and new sounds which come from groups of the electro-acoustic composers are beginning to find their way into the general music culture.

Electroclash is defined not only by its synthetic elements, but by the intentionally cold and stiff mechanical attributes of the music -- where house music and trance were warm and inclusive, electroclash sounds intentionally artificial, often with robotic vocals and stiff grooves.
It's touted as a post-punk phenomenon, dance music for the rock kids (hence the angry and anti-authoritarian addition of "clash" to what was simply "electro"), but what electroclash has done is strip the soul from dance music, effectively removing any fl elements from the mix, erasing any influence of R&B or jazziness.
As evidenced by Fischerspooner and Peaches, electroclash is often dependent on gimmickry and theatrics to compensate for lack of musicality.
