OnlineChecking.info: ESR Meter The Capabilities To Check Beyond Electrolytic Capacitor
There is something good about esr meter because besides electrolytic capacitor it can be use to measure other type of capacitors such as the non polarity capacitor.
When i use Dick Smith ESR Meter to compare the esr value of a non-polarity capacitor located near the vertical driver ic, i noticed that there is a big different in the esr value.
Conclusion-In order to accurately test a non-polarity capacitor, besides checking the capacitance value and using analog meter to check the charge and discharge to see if it has develop any short circuit when under load, you are also required to check the esr value as well.

  Electrochemistry Encyclopedia --- Electrolytic capacitors
Electrolytic capacitors are capacitors in which one or both of the "plates" is a non-metallic conductive substance, an electrolyte.
Electrolytes have lower conductivity than metals, so are only used in capacitors when metallic plate is not practical, such as when the dielectric surface is fragile or rough in shape or when ionic current is required to maintain the dielectric integrity.
The disadvantage of electrolytic capacitors is the non-ideal, lossy characteristics which arise from the semiconductive oxide properties, double-layer effects from the electrolyte-oxide charge-space region, resistive losses from the high electrolyte resistivity, frequency response rolloff due to the roughness of the surface oxide, and finite capacitor life due to breakdown and degradation of the electrolyte.

Solid electrolytic capacitor - Patent 5469326
The solid electrolytic capacitor of claim 1 further comprising a junction coat resin provided in a periphery of the internal anode lead which also covers said one lateral surface of said capacitor element from which said internal anode lead is extending.
The prior art solid electrolytic capacitor, however, causes a problem that displacement of the capacitor element 21 is likely when the internal anode lead 22 is to be connected to the external lead 23 since the capacitor element 21 is not held by the external leads.
Accordingly, the resultant solid electrolytic capacitor is prevented from exfoliation between the resin mold 6 and the leads and cracking of the resin mold 6 due to heat cycle thereby improving the moisture resistance thereof.

The electrolytic capacitor was invented in 1921 by Julius Edgar Lilienfeld.
Aluminium electrolytic capacitors are constructed from two conducting aluminium foils, one of which is coated with an insulating oxide layer, and a paper spacer soaked in electrolyte.
In aluminum electrolytic capacitors, the layer of insulating aluminum oxide on the surface of the aluminum plate acts as the dielectric, and it is the thinness of this layer that provides high capacitance.

 Rap on Replacing Electrolytic Capacitors
However, electrolytics cannot be used for AC voltages (that is, no polarity changes allowed), and compared to other types of capacitors, their electrical characteristics are abysmally bad.
In the equipment's chassis, often capacitors of different voltage ratings are connected by voltage-dropping resistors, and the equipment uses the current demands of the circuit to keep voltages in operating range.
I prefer to construct a subchassis or terminal strip, mount the electrolytics to the holder, and mount the holder to the chassis.

JENSEN Capacitors   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Our philosophy is ultimate performance and as a consequence of manufacturing high quality capacitors for the primary signal path we have also developed a range of electrolytic capacitors mainly for use in power supply of solid state and tube high end audio equipment.
As the input and output circuits of the capacitor are decoupled from each other by means of an inherent filter formed inside the capacitor winding, transients and noises coming from the mains cannot pass through the capacitor and reach the primary signal path.
Unlike the traditional two pole electrolytic capacitors where the capacitor alternative current behaviour/resistance is described with its ESR and impedance value in different frequencies, the four terminal capacitor's most characteristic parameter is the transfer impedance.
