Electronic Numbering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TElephone NUMber Mapping (ENUM or Enum) is a suite of protocols to unify the telephone system with the Internet by using E.164 addresses with DDDS and DNS.
ENUM is not required for VoIP (although it does facilitate it) and should not be confused with common VoIP routing based on SIP and H.323 protocols with a URI.
These services often verify PSTN numbers, and can be used in addition to the e164.arpa.

Electronic letter openers generally work by slicing a small strip of paper from the edge of each envelope.
The advantages electronic whiteboards have over traditional whiteboards include the ability to 'scroll' through several different screens without having to erase earlier screens, so that the earlier screens can be returned to, and the facility to print an image of the information on the screen.
Mechanical and electronic numbering machines of various complexities can be used to automatically place numbers on items such as forms received or the pages of a file.

Electronic Product Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Electronic Product Code, (EPC), is a code electronically recorded on an RFID tag.
The EPC is a 64- or 96-bit code, which contains a number called the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN).
Unlike a UPC number, which only provides information specific to a group of products, the GTIN gives each product its own specific identifying number, giving greater accuracy in tracking.

Electronic Numbering (ENUM) is a "protocol developed in the IEFT, RFC 2916, for fetching Universal Resource Identifiers (URIs) given an E.164 number."

E.164 adresses can be used in DNS by using Electronic Numbering (ENUM) which allocates a specific zone, primarily e164.arpa for use with E.164 numbers.
Any phone number, such as +1 555 42 42 can be transformed into a hostname by reversing the numbers, separating them with dots and adding the e164.arpa suffix, like so: 2.4.2.4.5.5.5.1.e164.arpa DNS can then be used to look up internet addresses for services such as SIP VoIP telephony.

DCITA - Electronic numbering (ENUM)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
ENUM reverses a telephone number, separating each digit with "." and adds several characters onto the end, for example, the Australian Communication Authority's (ACA's) general Melbourne telephone number +61 3 9963 6800 is converted to 0.0.8.6.3.6.9.9.3.1.6.e164.arpa.
The telephone numbers are inserted by the top level domain (TLD) ".arpa" using "e164" as the second level domain (2LD).
For example, it may be possible to set up an application whereby a person can send a fax or an email to another party, simply by entering a telephone number as the address or a subscriber could specify which telephone calls could be forwarded, and when.

You can simply dial a conventional telephone number and the telephone call will be routed over your internet connection to the company that operates the gateway, and they will bill you, not the local phone company.
Electronic Numbering (ENUM) makes it possible to dial traditional E.164 phone numbers, but be connected entirely over the internet if the other party uses Enum, so you do not incur any expenses other than the internet connection fees.
For example, somebody may call you on a number with a US area code, but you could be in London, and if you were to call another number with that area code, it would be treated as a local call, regardless of where you are in the world.
