Electronic mailing list - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Electronic mailing lists are a special usage of e-mail that allows for widespread distribution of information to many Internet users.
Mailing lists of this type are usually topic-oriented (for example, politics, scientific discussion, joke contests), even if the topic can range from extremely narrow to "whatever you think could interest us".
In even stricter mailing lists, every message must be approved by a moderator before being sent to the rest of the subscribers.

Mailing list - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A mailing list is a collection of names and addresses used by an individual or an organization to send material to multiple recipients.
At least two quite different types of mailing lists can be defined: the first one is closer to the literal sense, where a "mailing list" of people is used as a recipient for newsletters, periodicals or advertising.
The mailing list owner typically enforces this by "salting" the mailing list with fake addresses and creates new salts for each time the list is rented[1].

Lists for librarians are many, the use is extensive, and just keeping up with messages can (and has) become a significant part of many librarians' work day.
Electronic mailing lists are, of course, one example of how communication among library professionals and among academics generally has been enhanced through electronics.

 E-Mailing List
A mailing list is a list of people's names and e-mail addresses that is used to send certain messages or announcements to many people at once.
Each list is managed by a "list owner" who sets policies as to who can join (subscribe to) the list, who can send messages (post) to the list, whether the messages are moderated, and the general theme of discussion for the list.
The mailing list is a members-only benefit, and information posted to it is for the exclusive use of forum members UNLESS the posting member specifically grants permission for further distribution.

 Electronic Mailing Lists
This is the essence of an electronic mailing list.
Although an electronic mailing list is designed to share information, there may be times when it would be more appropriate to send your reply directly to a particular member rather then to the list.
In a moderated mailing list, there are one or more people who read all the messages that are sent to the mailing list, decide if they contain appropriate information, and if they do, allow them to pass through.
