Topic: Electronic news gathering

Electronic news gathering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ENG is a broadcasting (usually television) industry acronym which stands for electronic news gathering.
ENG is almost always done using a specially modified truck or van such as those made by E-N-G, Frontline and Wolfcoach.
In the U.S. there are ten ENG video channels set aside in each area for terrestrial microwave communications, with frequency coordination typically done by the local Society of Broadcast Engineers chapter rather than the FCC.

 Radio Television News Directors Association
In addition, local TV news operations, unlike their newspaper counterparts, are generally locked in fierce three-way competition with other local news programs in the same market.
The code states that "the responsibility of radio and television journalists is to gather and report information of importance and interest to the public accurately, honestly and impartially," and provides guidelines for fair, balanced reporting that respects the dignity and privacy of subjects and sources, avoiding deception, sensationalism, and conflicts of interest.
RTNDA also sponsors the Radio Television News Directors Foundation, a nonprofit organization that engages in research, education, and training activities in four principal areas: journalistic ethics, impact of technology on electronic news gathering, the role of electronic journalism in politics and public policy, and cultural diversity in the profession.

"The Development of a Class in Electronic News Gathering"
Studies have found that broadcast news employers often prefer college graduates who have relevant and practical skills in gathering, writing, and reporting news, as well as video equipment skills; while at the same time giving high ratings to a broad liberal arts education.
Students were told that at most stations the news director would be ultimately responsible for news content, but that in many situations would try to stay out of the day-to-day news decision making process.
News reporters were expected to both shoot and edit at times and news photographers often served as editors and reporters.
