Electronic mail (E-mail) refers to the electronic transfer of information typically in the form of electronic messages, memoranda, and attached documents from a sending party to one or more receiving parties via an intermediate telecommunications system.
Use of electronic mail services is a privilege, which imposes certain responsibilities and obligations on state users and is subject to state government policies and local, state, and federal laws.
State agencies have the responsibility to ensure that state-provided electronic mail services are used for internal and external communications which serve legitimate government functions and purposes.

Electronic records archiving and print digitization projects are not addressed though there may be overlap with one or both of these activities.
State Agencies are responsible for providing one (1) copy of data or publications intended for public use and distribution that are produced in a Tangible Electronic Format, as defined in the Publications' Criteria.
The cost of printing for all copies of a public document furnished to the State Librarian in compliance with this subsection shall be borne by the issuing agency.

The ability to maintain electronic records and ensure their accessibility over time is highly contingent on how records are created, organized, and maintained in the agencies that create or manage them.
When the Archives has agreed to accept custody of electronic records from an agency, the Archives and the agency must work together to ensure that the records are transferred to the Archives in an acceptable format and accompanied by the metadata necessary for maintaining access to the records.
In order for them to make purchasing decisions that support state electronic recordkeeping needs and for these guidelines to reflect practices that are reasonable from a procurement perspective, the Division of Purchases and State Archives will need to coordinate their activities.

 WV State Tax Department - Electronic Filing
When you are ready to transmit your returns, both federal and state returns should be sent at the same time if possible, even if there is a balance of tax due for one.
Electronic Funds Withdrawal or Direct Debit, as it is also known, allows the balance to be automatically deducted from your checking account.
However, State Only filing, like all forms of e-file, is available only for current year filers and cannot be used to file amended tax returns.

 Doorways To Information In The 21st Century: Every New York Library an Electronic Doorway Library   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
By requiring that all electronic doorway libraries have access to the Internet, New York State will be able to synchronize with the goal established in the 1996 Federal Telecommunications Act of having all libraries in the nation be connected to the Internet by the year 2000.
Electronic doorway libraries currently at the basic level, as defined in The Electronic Doorway Library (1993), shall have until December 31, 2000 to provide access via the Internet to their own information resources and to information resources outside the library.
In addition to the rationale stated earlier for requiring that all electronic doorway libraries provide Internet access to their own as well as to external information resources, this requirement also represents a step forward in the long-term effort to provide access to the component parts of the virtual statewide library catalog in New York.

State government information seekers usually want to know what other states are doing about issues currently confronting government, such as spending tobacco settlement money, charter schools, or health care reform.
As the state GILS programs move forward and continue to share the successes and disappointments of experience, a body of common standards, profiles and best practices will accrue and be available for any jurisdiction that wishes to implement a state GILS project.

Documents published by the State of Georgia from 1876 to date are located in the Georgia Documents Collection on the Second Floor of the Main Library.
Prior to 1876 are in the Hargrett Library's Georgia Collection, which is located on the Third Floor of the Main Library, and are accessible through GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries).
However, the Board of Regents is a state agency, and as such its publications are part of the Georgia Documents Collection.

The California State Library’s subscription to the Index to Current Urban Documents is a guide to the reports and research generated by local government agencies, civic organizations, academic and research organizations, public libraries and planning agencies in selected California cities.
It is being offered as a virtual library and reference tool containing highly useful Internet resources including databases, electronic journals, electronic books, bulletin boards, listservs, online library card catalogs, articles and directories of researchers, among many other types of information.
The California State Library is one of ten particpating libraries.

 State Electronic Commerce Programs
Some taxpayers required to pay their Sales and Use tax via EFT are also required to file electronically using the CT DOR Fast-File system: taxpayers whose liability for a tax in the prior 12-month period ending June 30, 2004, exceeded $10,000, are required to remit the tax electronically.
The measure amends state code Section 187-B to provide that a $50 penalty will be imposed on "a person who fails to file electronically." The penalty will be assessed when: two or more returns in any consecutive six-month period are not filed electronically and the person has been notified in writing of their noncompliance; or
The preparer would be required to continue using electronic means to file personal income tax returns in all subsequent years unless the preparer completed no more than 25 original individual income tax returns during the previous calendar year.

This is a compilation of current Oregon Administrative Statutes for participating agencies that address responsibilities related to handling of electronic documents or associated areas such as technology infrastructure.
Discussion with OSU representatives determined that higher education shares the same concerns, that working in common could be advantageous for all, and that planning should proceed in a manner open to participation of higher education.
Allen Mullen presented a case-study on the Texas State Library’s approach to archiving electronic state government publications.
