Electropop (also called Technopop) is a form of synth pop music that is made with synthesizers, and which first flourished from 1978 to 1981 in both England and Germany.
Electropop is different from synthpop because it is often characterised by a cold, robotic, electronic sound, which was largely due to the early limitations of the analog synthesizers used to make the music.
Electropop later fed into the synthpop and electroclash movements of the 1990s and beyond, and underwent a revival at the end of the 1990s (witness the Random tribute album to Gary Numan) with electroclash, which arose out of the staleness and exhaustion of the commercialised rave/house music scene.

First of all, electropop is not electro, although it does bear many similarities and there’s a great deal of crossover between the two.
The current electropop movement is a reaction against both these trends – an attempt to recapture the best elements of the past and make post-pop electronic music fun and fresh again.
At the centre of it all are the duo of Casey Spooner and Warren Fischer.

Not a style easily identified with any particular tribe or location, electropop is the globally appealing idea of recasting the traditional indie-rock song with synthesisers and processed beats.
Its obvious antecedent is the 1980s synth pop of Depeche Mode, New Order and Yazoo, but most electropop acts also owe an influence to Stereolab and the loungier strains of post-rock.
Unashamedly retro, often kitsch, electropop proves that abandoning the guitar doesn't have to mean submitting to facelessness and formlessness.
