Elefsina is the town where the majority of crude oil in Greece is imported and refined.
Athens's nearest military airport is a few kilometers east of Elefsina.

As it can be noticed according to its past and the mythology related to it, the town of Elefsina is a very interesting destination, often described as one of the most appealing ones in all Greece.

The prime minister said the decision to shut down the Elefsina Shipyards was due to the "bad 1992 contract" under which the Group acquired the yards.
Regarding the Elefsina Shipyards in particular, the announcement denied that the Group did not pay funds to purchase the shipyards and stressed that, on signing the contract, 2.8 billion drachmas was paid to the selling banks while shareholders themselves paid another 1.2 billion drachmas.
The Elefsina Shipyards operated at a loss due exclusively to state contracts for building troop carriers (a loss of eight billion drachmas) and a delay in implementing the contract with the Hellenic Rail Organisation (a loss of three billion drachmas).

There are two motorways that travel to the west towards Patra: (GR-8A, E94) and to the north towards Thessaloniki (GR-1, E75).
In 2001-2004 a ring road toll-motorway (Attiki Odos) was gradually completed, which extends from Elefsina on the west to the airport after circling the city from the north, plus another from Kaisariani to Glyka Nera where it meets the main road for Eleusis and the airport.
Its total length is now about 70 km, up from 18 km in March 2001 when the first section opened to traffic.
