Elektra (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Elektra is a 2005 movie directed by Rob Bowman.
Continuing from Daredevil, Elektra is revived by Stick after dying from the mortal wounds she suffered from Bullseye.
Just as Daredevil was for Matt Murdock, this film is about Elektra coping with her childhood experiences and putting them behind her.

 Elektra
With Elektra (Jennifer Garner) her characteristic is she may be a beautiful young woman with a deadly mastery of martial arts but she also has obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Elektra is revived by a martial arts grand master Stick (Terrance Stamp) and begins a new regime of training.
The film takes itself too seriously and tends to be indecisive as to just what genre it is. The film would have been better off as a psychological thriller with a deeper exploration of the dark past of Elektra.

Next, Elektra is seen in the kitchen where she is organizing fruit by type: grapes, apples, oranges, and peaches.
The most obvious revelation is that her mother was murdered, and Elektra's necklace becomes a symbol of the heroine's undying love for her mother.
Elektra has forced the memory deep into her mind, as the murderer's identity is unclear at first: an image of horror in the form of the beast, gradually becoming more concrete.

Jennifer Garner is cold as ice as Elektra, the latest superhero heroine seizing the reigns of another feature film conversion dug out of the vaults of the Marvel comics empire.
Elektra inevitably gate crashes his serenity and reassures him that "death isn't so bad." When he enquires just how she knows that her retortion comes with sub-zero intensity: "I died once."
Initially Elektra herself, a professional assassin by trade, appears as a soulless existential wanderer but as the plot establishes an important moral dilemma (involving a young girl and her father) her morality slowly curves into shape, without stretching her withdrawn, hard-as-nails exterior into pulpy mush or sloppy sentiment.

Yes, it’s a film made solely to entertain young girls at slumber parties for years to come, but there’s a charm to “Aquamarine” that is hard to deny.
Filmed with an unusual amount of vigor and pitch-perfect tween realization, the film manages to find some unique ground to cover before the whole enterprise grows tiresome for the climax.
It’s a shame the film is an often incomprehensible bore, laden with needles visual flourishes and storytelling that will someday make sense (lord help me, it better) when the filmmakers get around to finishing this proposed trilogy.

Elektra's current trauma, the one that drives the plot of Rob Bowman's movie, drags in all her old stuff and then some.
Elektra has ready battlefield answers for this gimmick as well (some wirework, some leaps and kicks, some elaborate flailing), but you know she's saving up the most intricate and exciting fights for the end, when she'll be dressed in red again.

An uncharacteristic dose of guilt prevents Elektra from rubbing out her new friends (awww!), and she commits to rescuing the twosome from the impending threat of rival assassins.
We also watch Elektra duke it out with Typhoid Mary (Natassia Malthe), a lanky villain with a lethal kiss who also made her debut in the pages of John Romita Jr.’s Daredevil books.

 Elektra film review
Much of the film centers on Elektra's efforts to steer a young girl Abby (Kirsten Prout) from taking the same path in life as her own.
To imbue Elektra, one of the few good things to emerge from the lackluster Daredevil, with some compassion is understandable, but to make her almost apologetic for her way of life hardly inspires allegiance, a prime necessity for what is a hoped for franchise.
The film's overall dark look hints at a more subversive story, but when tamed to acquire a more commercial rating, there is little room for real edge.

While it is true that Daredevil pretty much sucked big time, the film featured one shining light and that was Jennifer Garner, who easily stole the film from Ben Affleck in her portrayal of Elektra Natchios.
This film could also herald the arrival of Garner as a serious, major female action star, something that is seriously lacking in mainstream films today.
According to USA Today, Jennifer Garner is saying that her villainous foil in the upcoming Elektra film will be Typhoid Mary, a woman who is normal during the daytime, but at night she loses her mind, causing those with whom she comes into contact to contract typhoid itself.

 slant // magazine.com: Film Review - Elektra
exy assassin Elektra (Jennifer Garner)—who died in 2003's dreadful Daredevil but has been resurrected by Fox suits for this spin-off—is an OCD sufferer who maniacally scrubs floors and lays out her toiletries with the same meticulous care as she does her martial arts weapons.
If only Rob Bowman's inconsistent film—which then has the neurotic Elektra spill innocent security guards' blood, dramatically toss clothes on dirty floors, and not bat a single curled eyelash when her chestnut hair is tousled by the wind—paid such compulsive attention to detail.
That Elektra's fascination with sightless do-gooders might be related to her self-esteem and trust issues is a topic never broached, though the buxom badass's surrogate wife/mother relationships with Mike and Abby (who, like Elektra, is a gifted, motherless martial artist) is hammered home with comical solemnity.

It comes as no surprise to comic book readers and film industry watchers to hear that 20th Century Fox and production partner Regency Enterprises has cemented a deal with Jennifer Garner to star in an action spin-off featuring the character Elektra Natchios, who was introduced in the recent hit film Daredevil, starring Ben Affleck.
The Elektra film will be set after events in Daredevil, in which Garner's character seemingly died though it ended with a scene that appeared to indicate Elektra survived.
Garner, who has been gathering praise and awards for her day job as the star of the espionage series Alias, is the second actress to win a spin-off film series derived from a male action franchise.
