Assassin-for-hire Elektra Natchios (Garner) is revived by the Order of the Hand, a group of assassins who helped train her.
We don’t see Elektra’s darkness that the movie hints--for example, made explicit in the comic book with her being a member of the Hand--so it is difficult to see her redemption.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Elektra
Marvel Comics' Elektra was a late example of the former and an early example of the latter.
Elektra was first seen in Marvel's Daredevil #168 (January, 1981), as one of an endless series of monthly menaces, but with a twist — this particular hired assassin was an old girlfriend of his, and he was as surprised as the readers to see her doing that sort of work.
Elektra and her back-story were created by cartoonist Frank Miller (no relation to the Frank Miller who created Barney Baxter in the Air), who was then just starting to make his reputation in comics.

 MovieFreak.com - "Elektra" Movie Review
When we last met Elektra Natchios (Jennifer Garner, 13 Going on 30) she was dealt a fatal blow by the nefarious Bullseye towards the end of 2002’s Daredevil.
Elektra is a ponderous, overly melodramatic mess rambling incoherently from scene to scene and doing its best to leave the audience in a head-scratching ball of confusion.
And for those that claim to be fans, Elektra finally dons the fabled red suit (and as deliciously sexy as it is I wish I had the figure to wear it) and Garner struts her stuff within it admirably.

The movie devotes a surprising amount of time to Elektra's psyche, including a domineering dad who made her do swimming exercises, a murdered mom, and a bad case of OCD that compels her to count her steps and line up her fruits and vegetables just so.
My favorite character from Miller's older Elektra stories was always Stick, the blind, crotchety guru who trained her and then cast her out because she needed an anger-management course or two.
As for Garner, once Elektra thaws out a bit and is allowed to show emotion towards the girl, Garner is on firmer ground and can safely drop her dead-affect assassin voice and act.

Elektra has a contract to fulfill — to terminate a father and her daughter who are on the run from a group of ninja assassins known as The Hand — but that same father and daughter help Elektra remember the brighter days of her own life, when she and her father were together.

 Elektra (2005)
Plot: Elektra Natchios has been raised from the dead by the martial arts master Stick and now operates as a assassin, having developed a near-mythical reputation for her lethal efficiency.
Elektra was present when we saw the big screen version of Daredevil (2003), where she was played by Jennifer Garner.
We perhaps don't see enough of the anti-heroic Elektra involved in her assassinating activities before she is granted her redemption, as though such activities are too dark for a heroine in a mainstream movie.

 TheMovieBoy Review - Elektra (2005)
As the movie opens, Elektra, who has become a high-powered assassin as a way of dealing with the murder of her mother when she was a child, is instructed to travel to a remote island in the Pacific Northwest and await her latest assignment.
The first twenty minutes of "Elektra" are sluggish, to the say the least, as Elektra travels to her designated destination and mostly sits around and meditates while thinking of key moments from her childhood.
As Elektra, Garner's natural charisma is reigned back to barely a murmur, as she is asked to not do much more than mope around, kick butt when she needs to, and, during the climax, look good in a skimpy red number that would be more suited for a high-priced call girl.

His father gratefully thanked him and asked him to come back to his family, but Orestez's shame was as great as the day his mother died, and he left them, telling Hugo to keep Elekta safe and teach her how to protect herself.

Movie Habit: Review of Elektra (2005), **
Elektra, a spin-off from 2003’s Daredevil with Ben Affleck, isn’t a massive misfire of Supergirl proportions, but it also is nowhere near the highflying success of the current Spider-Man franchise.
Elektra and her ass-kicking ways were arguably the best parts of the Daredevil movie, but this incarnation isn’t merely a cheap ploy to resurrect the character and cash in at the movies.
Elektra lacks that balance and matters are only made worse by the secluded locations such as the quiet of a lakeside resort (in off season) and empty country houses.

Elektra (2005 film) - Marvel Universe
Continuing from Daredevil, Elektra is revived by Stick after dying from the mortal wounds she suffered from Bullseye.
One of Elektra's main problems is that many devoted comic book fans felt that Jennifer Garner's portrayal of the sexy Greek assassin was somewhat lackluster and did not capture the spirit of the comic book character.
Garner was criticised for being too "girl-next-door", as she is generally seen as the classic "wholesome American girl", whereas Elektra Natchios is an exotic, feral, sexual and often bloodthirsty character.
