  Event
In common language, an event is something that happens, especially something special of limited duration, for example a major football match or pop concert.
In physics (and in some kinds of philosophy), an event is a point in time which can be distinguished because the state of the world changed.
In probability a possible outcome of an experiment is called an elementary event, while a set of those (a subset of all) is called simply an event (see Event (probability theory)).

Event (probability theory) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In probability theory, an event is a set of outcomes (a subset of the sample space) to which a probability is assigned.
Venn diagrams are particularly useful for representing events because the probability of the event can be identified with the ratio of the area of the event and the area of the sample space.
In the general measure-theoretic description of probability spaces, an event may be defined as an element of a selected σ-algebra of subsets of the sample space.

All Elementary Mathematics - Study Guide - Probability - Events...
An event in probability theory is any fact, which may occur as a result of an experiment with a random outcome or may not.
An event can consist of one or several elementary events, for example, an appearance of two aces one after the other at taking a card out of a pack, or an appearance of the same number at triple throwing of a die.
Such event at throwing of a die is a fall of the die on one of its faces.

Elementary event - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
However, elementary events are often written as elements rather than sets for simplicity, where this is unambiguous.
Elementary events may have probabilities that are strictly positive, zero, undefined, or any combination thereof.
Under the measure-theoretic definition of a probability space, the probability of an elementary event need not even be defined, since mathematicians distinguish between the sample space S and the events of interest, defined by the elements of a σ-algebra on S.

 Statistics Glossary - Probability
Any event which consists of a single outcome in the sample space is called an elementary or simple event.
Two events are independent if the occurrence of one of the events gives us no information about whether or not the other event will occur; that is, the events have no influence on each other.
The addition rule is a result used to determine the probability that event A or event B occurs or both occur.

How to Produce an Access Grid Event: An Elementary Guide for Technical Users
In large-venue events with hundreds of participants, it is often not practical for people to "just speak up" or raise their hand if they have a question.
If it is safe to assume that your event's participants have access to AG nodes, you may wish to rely on them to make their own arrangements for access to AG nodes and the help of appropriate support staff.
AG event evaluation is similar to evaluating other learning events, except that the participants are geographically distributed, and the participating sites may have different ways of implementing AG technology.

SECTION TWO - ELEMENTARY PROBABILITY THEORY   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
It provides a measure of the chance of observing events be they common or rare, for example, the chance of receiving above average rainfall this year, the chance of finding someone in the general population with a particular DNA profile, or the chance of finding a drug sample with a given impurity profile.
In the example where a family with three children was considered, the event: 'no boys in the family', is clearly the opposite of the event: 'at least one boy in the family'.
Equally likely events are usually associated with some physical object which has a regular shape, such as a coin, a die, etc. If a coin is tossed, heads and tails are equally likely events.
