Married to Valerii V. Ryumin, born 1939 in Komsomolskna-Amure, Kharbarovsk Region, Russia.
After finishing the course in March, 1990, Kondakova was qualified as "test cosmonaut".
From January through June of 1994, she was under training for the 17th main mission and "Euromir-94" flight as a flight engineer of the prime crew.

Elena Vladimirovna Kondakova (Russian: Елена Владимировна Кондакова; born March 30, 1957) was the third Soviet/Russian female cosmonaut to travel to space and the first woman to make a long-duration spaceflight.

When his wife, Cosmonaut Elena V. Kondakova, was set for launch aboard the STS-84 mission last May, Ryumin told a Kennedy Space Center press conference that his wife's preparation for her space mission had caused his needs to be neglected.
