It is now known that there was a replica of the Temple of Solomon which was built on Elephantine Island, in the Nile River near Aswan, Egypt, around 650 BC.
The existence and activities of the Jewish colony at Elephantine are well documented by papyri which have been preserved.
This date, the beginning of the 4th century BC, coincides with the date which Ethiopian oral tradition holds the Ark to have begun its journey up the Nile River to their country.
