		Elf was a hard rock band founded in 1969 by singer Ronnie James Dio, guitarist Doug Thaler, keyboardist Micky Lee Soule, and drummer Gary Driscoll.
		During the mid-1960s the band were known as The Electric Elves, then The Elves, before settling on Elf.
		Dio's rich soulful voice and his band was brought to the attention of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who was looking for musicians for his first solo album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.

		The year of its final effort, Dio and most of Elf were hijacked by former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore to serve as the basis for his new band Rainbow.
		The band Dio released its first effort Holy Diver in 1983, an album that quickly achieved platinum sales and established the quartet as one of the prominent stadium acts of the 80s.
		Dio (the singer and the band) continued to remain active throughout the 90s and 00s, their status always remaining solid in the heavy metal community regardless of the inclination of mainstream tastes.

		Although he'd played in many a band prior to Elf, this was the one that caused him to get the recognition that would ultimately be required in order for him to become a rock legend.
		It's a common consensus among Elf fans that these records were improvements over the first one, and I strongly agree (although the first one was quite the accomplishment in its own right.) The former album contained in this set is, by far, the best of Elf's three albums.
		These 2 Elf albums are both in my top 5 Dio albums of all time, and I have all of his albums, Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio.

		So and so's band draws 'x' amount of people so they must be good, while so and so's band can't draw flies so they must suck.
		Most of the times I find a band I like it is purely by accident of going to see another band on that same bill and finding a gem in the opening band.

		He is renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the 'horns' hand gesture in heavy metal culture (formed by closing the thumb over the middle and ring fingers, while having the index and little-finger extended).
		After a few albums with Rainbow, Ronnie left the band due to creative differences (Blackmore had wanted to take the band in a more commercial direction), and was recruited by Black Sabbath in 1979 to replace Ozzy Osbourne.
		In 1982, during the mixing of the live album Live Evil, internal band problems and nasty (unfounded) accusations developed, which lead to Dio and Appice quitting the band to form Dio.
