  Elgin Centre signal box
Elgin Centre demonstrates the second design of Great North of Scotland boxes, introduced in 1884 to supersede the style illustrated at Dyce.
This type continued to be used until the turn of the century, and as this timespan covers the era when signalling became compulsory, a large proportion of GNS boxes were of this type.
The GNS main line from Aberdeen joined the Portessie and Lossiemouth line at Elgin East, and this box controlled the connections with the Highland Railway's Keith to Aberdeen Line.

Elgin East was a federal electoral district represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1867 to 1925.
It was created by the British North America Act of 1867 which divided the county of Elgin into two ridings: Elgin East and Elgin West based on a traditional division.
In 1882, the East Riding of the county of Elgin was defined as consisting of the townships of Yarmouth, Malahide and Bayham, the villages of Port Stanley, Aylmer and Vienna, and the city of St. Thomas.

The typical truck traffic at the Bluff City Materials Co. in South Elgin was interrupted Wednesday morning when 60 firefighters rushed in, responding to a mock ATV collision that sent seven "victims" to area hospitals.
Divers and rescue workers from Huntley to St. Charles maneuvered their emergency vehicles to the quarry, which served as the scene of a simulated all-terrain vehicle accident rescue that left three mannequin victims injured on a cliff and two in the water.
On June 23, 17-year old Ivan Nevarez of Elgin drowned in a quarry near Bluff City Boulevard and Gifford Road on Elgin's east side.
