The decision to produce the show at the Elgiva was a significant one because it was designed to celebrate the opening of the theatre's new building.
The original Elgiva opened 22 years ago in Elgiva Lane, Chesham, but in 1998 the venue moved as part of a £90 million revamp of the town centre.
However, Elgiva bosses are keen to emphasise that despite the theatre's financial and commercial successes it is still a community venue run under the control of Chesham Town Council.

Elgiva Nicholls Celtic Cross appeared in her book Tatting Techniques and was for many years considered to be impossible as the pattern was not placed in the book for this reason.
However at Christmas I tried the Cord of Loops and then realised that the Cross was actually possible if you followed Elgiva Nicholls' instructions to the letter.

A century earlier, Frances Burney had suffered a like reverse when her Edwy and Elgiva was withdrawn after a single disastrous presentation at Drury Lane on 21 March 1795.
J.P. Kemble as the eminently unmemorable Anglo-Saxon king and Mrs Siddons as his tragic bride had given of their best, but the lesser actors were 'sadly imperfect' in their parts, and the under-rehearsed performance fell far short of adequate.
Three of these were completed in the 1790s: Edwy and Elgiva, Hubert de Vere, and The Siege of Pevensey; a fourth, Elberta, remained in fragments until adroitly reconstructed here by Stewart Cooke.

Town councillors have criticised Chesham's Elgiva theatre for failing to turn a profit on its pantomime despite record ticket sales.
The panto was the fifth staged at the 300-seater Elgiva, which is heavily subsidised by Chesham Town Council and repeatedly reports annual losses.
Other councillors offered support for future pantomime productions, but on the condition that the Elgiva's management drew up a realistic budget which could guarantee a profit of around £10,000.

Very kind in telling me what it wanted', she wrote ingenuously in March 1854.The work in hand was the female head of Elgiva (ill.1), which Mrs Boyce, Wells and George urged her to send in to the Academy.
The painting was praised privately by Ford Madox Brown and publicly by Ruskin, securing it wide notice.(20) Perhaps this success comforted Mrs Boyce, for September saw Joanna in Paris, with her mother and brother Bob, to arrange a term of study.
He had bought her first success, Elgiva and, of her RA exhibits that year, had optioned La Veneziana before the show opened.
