His wife, Eliane, was just 26 years old when she was executed along with three other women, all of whom were agents for Special Operations Executives engaged in helping the French Resistance Movement in German occupied France.
Thomas Plewman was the eldest son of Francis Victor Plewman and his wife, formerly Florence Haylock of Leicester, England, who were married in 1911.
Eliane Sophie was detained by the Gestapo for at least 15 days and she was subjected to electric shock torture, physical beatings, as well as inhuman water torture sessions.

During the summer of 1942 Eliane married Tom Plewman, an officer in the British Army.
Given the code name "Gaby", Eliane was parachuted into France on 13th August 1943 where she joined the network led by Charles Skepper.
Eliane Plewman was executed at Dachau in September, 1944.

Next day Rowden was taken to 84 Avenue Foch, the Paris headquarters of the Sicherheitsdienst where she was interrogated for two weeks before being sent to Fresnes prison.
On May 13, 1944 Diana Rowden, along with arrested SOE agents Sonya Olschanezky, Andrée Borrel, Yolande Beekman, Vera Leigh, Eliane Plewman, Odette Sansom-Hallowes and Madeleine Damerment were moved to concentration camps in Germany.
On July 6, 1944, Rowden, Leigh, Borrel and Olschanezky were shipped to the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp in the Vosges Mountains of Alsace (France) where they were injected with phenol and disposed of in the crematorium.

Khan continued to refuse to give any information on her work or her fellow operatives.
On 11 September 1944, Noor Inayat Khan, along with three other SOE agents, Yolande Beekman, Eliane Plewman and Madeleine Damerment, were moved to Dachau Concentration Camp.
The other three women were lined up and forced to kneel, after which each was executed by a single shot to the head.

They arrived by train on the night of September 11, 1944 and were allegedly executed the next morning near the crematorium by a single shot to the head; their bodies were immediately burned to destroy the evidence.
Their names are Yolande Beekman, Madeleine Damerment, Noor Inayat Khan, and Eliane Plewman.
In 1948, the names of Beekman, Damerment and Plewman were revealed for the first time when they were included among the 52 women honored by a plaque placed at St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge.

In May 1944 the Germans transported Beekman and seven other SOE agents, (Eliane Plewman, Madeleine Damerment, Odette Hallowes (see below, HS 9/648/4), Diana Rowden, Vera Leigh, Andrée Borrel (files already released, HS 9/183) and Sonya Olschanezky) from Fresnes to Germany.
Khan was taken to Germany and imprisoned at Karlsruhe.
Later, with three other SOE agents (Yolande Beekman, Eliane Plewman and Madeleine Damerment), she was moved to Dachau.

After the war, Odette was interviewed by Vera Atkins, an SOE agent who took it upon herself to find out what had happened to the agents who had never returned, although she was not given any official authority to do so.
Odette provided the information that Andrée Borrel, Diana Rowden, Vera Leigh, Yolande Beekman, Madeleine Damerment and Eliane Plewman and another unidentified woman were on the train with her on the trip to Karlsruhe.
The unidentified woman was Sonia Olschanezky, who was released from Karlsruhe and sent to an unnamed concentration camp on July 6, 1944, the same day that Andrée Borrel, Diana Rowden, and Vera Leigh were also released, although this bit of information was not discovered until 12 years later.

I believe he was hanged – unless he claimed extenuating circumstances and was shot instead if he so wished.
Of these seven women only Odette Sansom was to survive the war.
