Elias - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Elias is thought to be linguistically derived from Elijah because the Hebrew suffix -yahu, rendered -iah or -jah in English is consistently replaced with -ias in Greek, as seen in other names such as Isaiah/Esaias and Jeremiah/Jeremias.
People to whom the title Elias is applied in Mormonism include Noah, the angel Gabriel (considered to be the same person as Noah), Elijah, John the Baptist, John the Apostle, and an unspecified man who was a contemporary of Abraham.
In Latter-day Saint theology, the name-title Elias is not synonymous with Elijah and is often used for people other than the biblical prophet.

Moreover, Elias repeatedly emphasizes the Platonic-Neoplatonic conviction that the purpose of philosophy is the transformation or assimilation of a human being to the godhead, a genuinely Platonic ideal explicitly stated in the Theaetetus, 176A-B).
In that case, the attribution of these commentaries to some “Elias” may well have been motivated by later scribes who sought to justify, by giving a monastic name to their author, the copying of what were in fact pagan philosophical texts.
Elias” is the name of an author which, in the course of a complicated history of textual transmission, has become associated with some manuscripts of commentaries on Aristotle and Porphyry.

Elias is appearing through Saturday, the most memorable moments were those in which she and her three musicians (Marc Johnson on bass, Rubens de la Corte on guitar and Paulo Braga on drums) cracked through the formal strictures of pop samba.
Eliane Elias is the real thing, a very good pianist and a singer whose style is the result of a great deal of artistic subtlety, and a musician who here resides in her perfect home, bringing the most sinuous of rhythmic touches to such shiny songs as Call Me and Baubles, Bangles and Beads.
Elias’ low, breathy, intimate, nearly vibrato-less instrument both shapes and fits the mood perfectly, while Rob Mathes’ lush orchestral arrangements create a lacy fabric that is tasteful and non-intrusive.The CD is nicely paced; “Baubles, Bangles and Beads,” ‘”Tangerine,” and “Doralice” are the lighter, more up-tempo selections that keep things moving.
