He was one of the organizers of the Susquehanna Company and was an active supporter of the company in its attempts to secure confirmation of its lands in the Wyoming Valley.
Dyer was chief justice of Connecticut from 1789 until 1793.

 This Day in History 1807: Connecticut Patriot Eliphalet Dyer dies
Under the British crown, Dyer won repeated election to the colonial assembly in 1747, 1748, 1752, 1753 and consecutively from 1756 to 1784.
Dyer was a dedicated supporter of Connecticut’s land claims in the Wyoming Valley through which the Susquehanna River flows.
He was unable to gain title for the lands in London and the dual claims to the region ultimately led to bloodshed during The First Pennamite War of 1769-1771.

DYER, Eliphalet, jurist, born in Windham, Connecticut, 28 September 1721 ; died there, 13 May 1807 he was graduated at Yale in 1740, studied law, and was admitted to practice in 1746 after which he was town clerk and justice of the peace in Windham.
Dyer was lieutenant colonel of a regiment sent to reduce Crown Point.
Colonel Dyer was elected judge of the superior court in 1766, and held that office till 1793, serving during the last four years as chief justice.

 The Windham Frog Fight
In Windham, the people were especially anxious, since one of their most prominent citizens, Col. Eliphalet Dyer, an attorney in civilian life, had just raised a regiment prior to joining the expedition against Crown Point.
Yet, while some Windhamites may have felt the mortification passed on by their ancestors and the words of a hundred jingling verses, the majority of townspeople have come to terms with their untoward celebrity, even to the point of turning it to some advantage.
The infamous Frog Pond (for so Col. Dyer's mill pond has been called since that dismal night in 1754) has been prominently marked by the local D.A.R. chapter with a huge granite boulder and bronze tablet commemorating the frog fight legend.

Despite of the fact that one of Connecticut's Congressmen, Eliphalet Dyer of Windham, had cast the deciding vote in favor, Connecticut was in an uproar over the measure.
Opponents, who used the issue to secure victories in the state election (Governor Jonathan Trumbull, Connecticut's War Governor of 18 years, decided to retire the following year, and Dyer lost his place on the Council), were afraid that this was the beginning of Congress becoming as powerful as Parliament had claimed to have been.
