		Ze vestigde zich in 1961 in Amsterdam, maar ze bleef schrijven in het Afrikaans.

		Elisabeth Eybers is een van de belangrijkste dichters in de Afrikaanse letterkunde.
		Dat ze wegens de politieke situatie in Zuid-Afrika naar ons land kwam is een mythe die in Ena Jansens boek Afstand en verbintenis - Elisabeth Eybers in Amsterdam wordt ontzenuwd, hoewel Eybers in interviews ook weleens heeft gezegd dat het politieke klimaat in Zuid-Afrika haar niet aanstond.
		Haar gedichten spelen zich dicht bij huis af: de buurvrouw die een kleedje uitklopt, de melancholie van een oudejaarsavond een gesprek met een kleinzoon, een paar eenden in een wak....het gaat bij haar om de kwesties van het leven zelf: ouderdom en kindertijd, liefde, dood en afscheid.

		I quoted the poet, Elisabeth Eybers before in the blog, the only Afrikaans poet to feature here.
