  Dame Elisabeth Frink R.A. | Biography (1930 - 1993)
Dame Elisabeth Frink was born in Thurlow, Suffolk, in 1930.
Frink went on from art school to take her place at the centre of Bohemian Chelsea; she married three times, had many lovers, and became friends with many of the late 20th century's most colourful figures from the art and literary worlds.
Elisabeth Frink (1930-1993) was born at Thurlow in Sussex and trained at Guildford and the Chelsea School of Art under Bernard Meadows.

Elisabeth Frink, the English sculptor and printmaker, was born in Thurlow in Suffolk in 1930 and studied at the Guildford School of Art from 1946–49 and with Bernard Meadows at the Chelsea School of Art from 1949–53, where she was to go on to teach.
Frink’s range of subjects during this period included men, birds, dogs, horses and religious motifs and her work was distinguished by a naturalistic approach, of which the sinister, cautious stance of Bird (1952) is a good example.
In the 1960s Frink’s fascination with flight was evident in a series of falling figures and winged men, and during the time she lived in France in the late 1960s she worked on a series of monumental, minatory, goggled male heads.

dOc DVD Review: Donatello: The First Modern Sculptor (1986)
In this production, the life and work of the 15th-century sculptor Donatello is explored in excruciating detail, in that very BBC sort of way the boys of Monty Python loved to rake.
While the lens ponders a breathtaking variety of sculpture and schiacciati (extreme low reliefwork) in bronze, marble, sandstone, wood, terracotta and plaster, it exhibits the sculptor's avid versatility and passion.
Modern artist Peter Rockwell demonstrates the master's technique of "drawing" in marble; Elizabeth Frink presents relief modeling in clay and discusses the difficult agility Donatello possessed, made obvious by his quick and subtle work in pigmented plasters.
