EncycloWine: Encyclopedia for Wine Enthusiasts - Philippe de Rothschild
Baron Philippe de Rothschild (April 13, 1902 - January 20, 1988) was a member of the Rothschild banking dynasty who became a Grand Prix race-car driver, a scriptwriter, a theatrical producer, a poet, and one of the most successful wine growers in the world.
As a young man, in sharp contrast to the Rothschild family's staid aristocratic traditions, Philippe de Rothschild became a larger-than-life personality as a race-car driver, actor, film producer, artist, and the man who revolutionized winemaking in the 20th century.
Baron Philippe de Rothschild remained active in the wine business until he died in 1988 at the age of 85, whereupon its reins were taken up by his daughter, who has also achieved acclaim as a stage actress under the name Philippine Pascal.

Despite the impressive age of the vineyard, the wine has tended to be relatively light, quick to mature, and easily outdistanced in complexity, character, and longevity by the two siblings.
Another of the Baroness Philippine Rothschild estates, the vineyard is briliantly placed next to both Mouton and Lafite and produces a lush fruity quality, lavish quantities of toasty new oak, and greater depth and flavor dimension.

Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, scion of the most famous financial dynasty of modern times, was indulging a personal whim not at all typical of his clan's uncanny knack for making money in unprecedented quantities.
Like the California dot-com tycoons of the '90s, Baron de Rothschild thought it would be cool to serve his friends wine from his own vineyard, with his name on the label.
Among her innovations have been the establishment of a second wine, Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild; the creation of Mouton's first premium white wine, Aile d'Argent; and a cooperative venture in Chile to produce an acclaimed premium red wine, Almaviva, with the huge Concha y Toro firm.

In 1945, Baron Philippe de Rothschild conceived the original idea of crowning the Mouton label with a work of art created for this purpose by famous artists: These have included paintings by Miró, Chagall, Braque, Picasso, Warhol, Bacon, Balthus, amongst others.
Baroness Philippine de Rothschild has therefore decided to depart from tradition by devoting the entire label to Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild (1812-1870), her direct ancestor from the English branch of the family who acquired the Mouton estate on 11 May 1853.
The 2001 label by American artist Robert Wilson features a dyptich-style douple print of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, the owner of the estate.

After five years at the league, Sekaer signed on with the photographer, Berenice Abbott, at the New School and it was around this time also that he became acquainted with Ben Shahn and Walker Evans.

It seems likely that these contacts were at least partly responsible for Sekaer getting a job as a photographer for the Rural Electrification Administration in 1936.

For instance, few people know that Napoleon Bonaparte of France, Lord Rothschild of England, and Queen Hortense of the Netherlands had in common an interest in mathematical talent.
Fewer still know the influence that that interest had on their lives and on the lives of others of their respective times.
