In the womenŽs 800m race, Chantal Petitclerc (Canada) immediately took the lead and won in a time of 1:53,66min, setting a new record.
Going head to head with Petitclerc for most of the race, Australian Eliza Stankovich crossed the finish line 0.22 seconds behind the Canadian and had to settle for silver.
Louise Sauvage, who lit the Paralympic flame in the Sydney 2000 Paralympics, placed third with a time of 1:53,92min.
